Those two are actually different in color composition, unlike inferno and the new one. Looks like they just turned down the brightness.

Solar Octane and Inferno appear to be a couple of shades away from each other, at least in pictures.

The colors themselves will be hard to distinguish in certain situations.........like from a distance, with a mix of sun and shade, ect.....

Cavalry and Voodoo are much further apart.

Talking to a body shop friend he looked up both codes and he told me that it seems that:
    Inferno: 4X0 is a 2 stage paint
Solar Octane: 4W5 is a 3 stage paint with pearlescent pigments

If Solar Octane is indeed a pearl base paint then that would help explain why reviewers describe this paint having a different appearance in different lighting conditions.

If you're really curious about paint, this website has the most comprehensive list of auto colors I've ever seen. It includes PPG and RM/BASF paint codes, for nearly every manufacturer on the planet.

Thanks for sharing. I was debating trading up my 21 ORP for a Solar Octane but thankfully my common sense is returning to me. That is super sharp though. I saw the Tundra at a dealer that color and it does seem to change in the sun.

I figured with this economy further heading south I think I will save my cash and hold to the hope of early retirement.

Congratulations to those that get one.

The economy is definitely headed for disaster. This is just the beginning. With the record inflation, record gas prices, crumbling stock market and rising interest rates, I'm still baffled how dealerships are still selling every single vehicle before it even hits the lot. And most dealerships are asking MSRP plus ADM. It'll all catch up soon, but it hasn't happened yet.

Yep I learned last week my employer is laying off a bunch of engineers in the States and Europe. For the last several years we recruited engineers from overseas because apparently there are not enough here in the States.

It’s not looking pretty that’s for sure. Get used to having less.
