The Ellis Precision shift knobs, the console tray, and the glove box organizer are three great little mods. It still amazes me the variety of after-market mods available for the 4R.

I feel that the cargo cover is a necessity. I frequently carry things that I do not want people to see.
Having said, the 4Runner cargo cover is a pretty poor implementation. The worst I have ever used.

I’m in your boat, I’m going to remove the Yakima MegaWarrior once I receive my new Venture. It’s finally in freight.

I have regular rails which will eventually come off when I purchase rocksliders in the future.

I bought my Venture used from a dealer, the rack had locks and I didn't find that out until later. Dealer did not have the keys.
Make sure that if your rack has locks that you get the keys.

I'm pretty sure the lousy capacity is due to the factory cross bars. I mounted mine directly to the side-rails with some hardware and it's much stronger. I bought my basket on purpose, though. It's pretty useful.

I’m still getting used to the roof rack on my ORPRO. Looks like scaffolding for a mason.

I also don’t understand runningboards or Predator steps. Why would I decrease clearance? But hey to each their own.

I can really say I regret them as I sold them and got most my money back. I thought they looked cool until one day I got tired of my wife saying she didn’t like them so off they went.

No handle on the driver side A pillar, I just got so used to it that it that not having it is an annoyance. Cloth seats not being available in PRO or TRD OP, although leather looks nice, it is a "burning" pain sitting on a dark leather seat that was heated by the sun for hours in the summer... Easy fix with a seat cover, although it looks a bit funny...

My 7 year old required the side steps to climb in the 4 runner....(thats why most people get them).
Once she is older then I will take them off.

How did you do this? Mod write up? Does it interfere with the "crash bag"?

I had the same question as @Burnt Taco .

Has anyone tested the airbag with the handle in place? It seems like the reason for the lack of a grab handle might to to keep it from flying into your face causing injury if the airbag deploys. :notsure:

That's the first question that always comes up with this mod...when you consider that the passenger side airbag is in the identical position in the A-pillar, that pretty much answers the question. Is the driver more important than the passenger? Besides that, the actual airbag is next to the handle, between it and the door edge of the A-pillar trim cover, so I can't see the handle being launched anywhere with its deployment (just as on the PS). Although in a violent collision, anything is possible, but in that case, all bets are off as to what will go flying where.

I believe I read of someone who had actually had a collision with this mod, and IIRC, the airbag did deploy, but I'm not absolutely sure on this.

@Burnt Taco, let me research back and find you the links for the mod. Stay tuned.

    Here you go:

I also checked into the side airbag deployment issue before installing the grab handle. There are videos of how it deploys, and most of the curtain comes down from the top of the door near the headliner. The handle doesn’t interfere.

You can kind of see the location (#3) in this Toyota document.

Moonroofs are standard on 4runners, based on what region/zone you live. If you live in one of the region/zones where it comes standard (but you don't want one), ask your dealer to find you a model from a zone where it's not standard and the dealers can do a swap. Learned this on my last 4Runner purchase, because I also did not want a moonroof. Problem of course, you're going to have to pay a swap fee.

These regions/zones also affect other things like availability for extended service contracts, etc.

Not sure if this map still current but

A almost wish I were in a region where it was standard. I wanted an ORP with KDSS, and was flexible about everything else.

My last 4Runner had one, and I rarely used it, so I took dealer stock to get a deal. But, now that I sleep in the 4Runner regularly, it would be nice to have.

I still don't regret not having it. I just would prefer to have one if everything else is equal.

Out west they come standard. I wonder with Toyota's big push for uniformity, if they will change how their standard features will work. But can't imagine moonroof ever coming standard in a place like Canada or upper east.
