Interesting, I am in Texas as well and have been trying to find a KDSS (because I am able to order one) to compare to a TRD Pro, but haven't been able to find one to test. Out of curiosity, did they say why it's unavailable in our region?

For those interested in KDSS, given scarcity, the best approximation would be test driving a GX Premium.

Going back to 2010, I have yet to read a negative professional review of KDSS. Moreover, the bulk of press cars allocated by Toyota have been equipped with it.

Beyond the scarcity, it is a pretty expensive option at $1750 (at least in 2021). That said, compared to all the dealer installed swill, it truly makes a noticeable difference. Especially should you live somewhere not flat.

What is a GX premium. I’ve never seen or heard of that?

Lexus GX. It's the same suspension and frame as the 4Runner. They have KDSS (at least some do.. not sure if they all do).

That is the base GX as the GX Luxury comes equipped with an adjustable suspension.

Its just a regional option we don’t have, like the gun safe, blind-spot monitors, etc. Each region has a different contract with Toyota for different options/trim levels. Not just across the US, but of course the world. I think there are 12 different “regions” across the US.

Already sold from what I’ve been told. Unfortunately most of the internet postings are sold even though they are often left up.

ya, very very few internet postings are available. If you really want a 4runner or Tacoma, you need to be on a list with a few dealerships.

I installed the Dr. KDSS control unit and can vouch for the smoothing out of the high speed stuff. Miles of desert roads are so much better, especially when comparing
the ride to my '98 Taco. The suspension soaks up everything when the valves do not close above 12 mph. I actually find myself switching it off in town and on the highway as
well when it is straight as the eye can see for miles. When things get curvy, you can't beat KDSS, IMO.
