First noticed this problem after loading the 4Runner up for a camping trip. After I slammed the rear hatch as hard as I could it solved the problem. Today with just the stroller in the car, not impeding the hatch lock it happened again. It wouldn’t allow me to lock the car from the back button. Saw the warning light with key detected in vehicle again warning. Slammed the rear hatch again and the problem went away. Does the rear hatch lock assembly need to be cleaned or lubed? I’ve seen people mention “boot lock” replacement. What is that?

There's a fob antenna back there, I believe under the carpet. Maybe remove and plug back in the wiring harness?

    I have a 2015 4Runner Limited
I recently changed the latch on my rear door, i have been getting this same warning intermittently and it is driving me nuts, it does not matter how hard I slam the door it still happens.
On my rear bevel/ door handle I have the up and down button to lock unlock and control the window. i wonder if I can disconnect the up and down arrow if it will deactivate this warning?
    Help!

I recall seeing another post a few months back where a member had keyless entry issues and the dealer had found a connector in the rear hatch area that was not 100% seated/locked and was having similar issues.
if I can locate that post, will definitely give a link to it.
