Uh, I made the choice to live in an area with nearly no crime instead of an area with high crime and a bunch of dirtbags. Pretty sure my 4Runner is actually unlocked in my driveway.

Keys are on the kitchen counter since I drove my other car today, but the 4Runner is likely unlocked. And I am 100% sure that nothing will be stolen out of it nor will the cat be sawed off by a meth head.

I can't comprehend living somewhere where you have to worry about your cat being sawed off. Why would anyone live in such a place?

Just as an FYI. There were many cat thefts last Summer/Fall at trailheads in the mountains near me, 2++ hours north of any 'high crime' areas. Shitheads are everywhere.

However, you sound very fortunate to live in such a nice place.

I've just this weekend installed a Cat Security on my 4Runner, and a MillerCat on my partner's Tacoma. We have a $0 on comprehensive and both park in the garage, but he's doing classes at the local college campus during the day, which they seem to be targeting a lot as well.

Our Tacoma is a 4 cylinder, and I am quite surprised as to how easily accessible the cat's were underneath...

It happens all over, not just in the hood.

I live in an area with very little crime. But, I sometimes work in and visit areas that aren't as nice.

Nothing. I don't live in the hood. We moved last yr just outside the second largest city in the state. Brand new neighborhood. No riff raff around here. My rig stays parked in the garage.

Same. I rarely leave my car locked. There's been a few times where I left my car in my driveway hooked up to my bass boat with the keys in the car and boat for a few days. I've also left my key in the ignition in my motorcycle more than I can count in several parking lots for hours and it was still there.

How difficult was that? They say 4 bolts, but it looks like there's spacers. Are the holes it bolts to already have something there or are they predrilled unoccupied holes? Thanks much.

Congrats. But the vast majority of the rest of the country is not like that. Leave your keys in any car in 80% of the US and it'll be gone in 20 minutes. It sucks, but it's the way it is.

Yeah, I understand that. I used to not live in an area like I am now. If my cat was stolen, it was stolen. I'm not going to stress about trying to protect it from being stolen. If a thief wants something, they will do whatever they want to obtain it.

Careful how quickly you judge others for their decision making. I bought a house in a very nice area. 6 years later it is overrun with illegal aliens. So, to answer your question directly: because I can’t afford to move now that some dickhead simultaneously fucked up my neighborhood and the housing market. Lmao It was never a huge problem around here until the border was opened up. All those people coming here have no jobs, but they all know about turning in cats to recyclers for cash. Be glad you live far from the border. Hopefully for your sake they won’ drop a busload off in your neighborhood like they have been doing all over just about everywhere else in the US. Count your blessings.

The hardest part is raising it in place while under the vehicle. There are two carriage bolts with appropriate washers, and two Allen bolts with washers and a spacers that are used between cat guard and pan. There is a install video on You Tube and TikTok RSG posted.

I get what you're saying. But, if a would be theif rolls under a car and there's plate steel surrounding the cat, they might just move along to the next car.

It's kind of like locking your vehicle. A determined crook will break a window, or pick the lock. Or, they might just keep going until they find an easier target.

This is true. Anything to slow them down, could and might deter them from choosing your vehicle.

I think some people are highly overestimating the level of determination of these cat thieves.

Agree, I feel this way about most thieves. Just making things more difficult and time consuming for them makes you a much less appealing target.

I'm not really a dog person but this is one of those use cases I can get behind.

    1) Get a Doberman
    2) Give it a front lawn doghouse
    3) Long chain leash
    4) ??????
    5) Cat intact

Just ordered the RCI cat plates (I already have the RCI transmission skid). Not a bad price especially with 15% Memorial Day discount.
