BROKEN TRANSMISSION DIP-STICK +

    stock so far, what could he possibly need
    :annoyed: what I retrieved measures 18" from the o-ring. does anyone know how long that thing was, originally?
    it's out of a 1999 4runner 4wd 3.4L auto trans, and was the genius device with several twists and bends. does someone have the part number. there is lots of narrative about this on the webs, but nothing conclusive enough for ordering. need input. and thanks :tumbleweed:

    I recently put my knee in the wrong spot and broke the overflow hose spigot clean off of the radiator. the bonus feature is photos of the repair.

    The spigot was installed with super glue after intense cleaning of the area. then a layer of JB Weld, the strongest version, was applied as a supporting layer, and allowed to fully set. then i added a layer of fiberglass in another coat jbw, fully cured under a heat lamp of sorts. some work with files and saw blades and knives and sandpaper got the spigot ready for the hose. I would not try this without the glass, and I would not use the 'instant' version of 'weld.

    Sorry about the extra image at the top, don't know how to correct that. I sorry for not having the photos captioned properly. Don't know how to do that, yet. :)

    You can buy a new dipstick tube as the tube and pan are two parts. The pan-end only extends an inch and a half or two, and the dipstick slides into it and seals with an o-ring.

    So about the dipstick. I got the tip end out. What I'd like to know about the auto trans is IF there is an overflow hole in it, like the diffs. So far I haven't stumbled on the page that illustrates that in the FSM...

    Overflow hole?

    No, there's a drain hole on your pan but that's it. If you're worried about fluid levels, just make sure you check it appropriately.

    Park on a flat surface.

    Ensure vehicle is up to operating temperature.

    Shift from park, to R, to N, to D, to 2, and to 1, taking several seconds between each shift change.

    Go back over to park, and go check your fluid levels via your dipstick.

    The 'overflow' on your diffs are just FILL holes. You have a DRAIN and a FILL. Those are easy cause you just pump fluid in there until it starts pouring out.

    Transfer case does this too fortunately.

    yup fill hole. that's what i'd like to find in that transmission. anyway looking for a local dealer to order the stick from. thanks for the reminder about shifting it before checking it. another forgotten detail.
