I’m looking into my first lift, and leaning towards the the Eibach stage 1. There’s not a lot of Toyota-inclined shops in my area.. except for maybe this one. This is the quote I was given for an Eibach stage 1 lift. Seems a little steep.. anyone else agree or is this in the ball park? The 7.5 hours of labor I’m quoted for, would possibly be less “if it doesn’t end up taking that long”.

More than I’d want to pay. I installed Bilstein 5100’s all around on mine a few months ago in 2.5 hours in my garage, by myself. I had no prior experience with a spring compressor and strut assembly, but it’s not a complicated job.

Good luck finding a more affordable shop.

Keep in mind you want to do the alignment after a few hundred miles for the suspension to settle.

$862 in labor is steep, but normal price for a shop. I'd try to search for a local guy that does installs. Where I live there are a bunch of us who do installs in our driveways. Tacomaworld is a good place to find a local guy in your area. Good luck to ya.

First, I would find out if you can buy the lift cheaper direct. If so, you might be able to get a better deal on the parts buying them elsewhere or just ask the installer to price match. Second, I think you could get ALL the tools to DIY it for under $862.50. Doing it for the first time you should be able to do the first side in under 4 hours and the second one in less than 3 (I think that’s a high estimate). Gotta parrot @Superdave1.0. If you live near San Antonio I’ll help you do it.

Is the most challenging part compressing the spring? Would there be any benefit on getting the kit pre-assembled? Unfortunately I’m in the KS area

Pre-assembled sounds like a good idea. Springs can be dangerous.

I actually had a well known guy on tacomaworld fuck up the thread on my struts, I was trying to cheap out and save a hundred bucks over 88 rotors. Shops fuck up too but I feel like there's more recourse. I turn all my own wrenches now.

I live in southern CA where EVERYTHING is expensive, and if you're getting a stage 1 lift for around $2K, that sounds just about right. First things first though. Check out the shop's google reviews. They should have at or near 5* ratings. If not, keep looking, even if that means traveling further. My son is getting his 2017 Tacoma lifted with the ikon stage 1 lift kit, and it's going to cost him around $2K.

I took my friends rav4 into the stealership for its 10k mile service (she didn't want me to change her oil since she wanted a paper trail despite me warning her about the incompetent techs) it was free but I overheard a guy in the waiting room, they charge 200 bucks for an oil change now!!

I think it’s like $120 here. If you want to rotate the tires I could see it being $200.

What's crazy is this was a 7am Sunday morning appointment, I got there at 650 and the line was already 25 cars deep waiting. It's John elway crown toyota which they claim they do msrp so they're clearly making up the "loss" with the service side

I don’t think any of the dealers here do Sunday work, but they are open on Saturdays.

And, yes, on the days they are open the line is usually 10 to 15 cars deep for a tiny little dealership in Walnut Creek.

Mistakes happen at any level shop. Usually when a thread gets destroyed on a strut, it's because the previous installer overtightened the top nut. When the nut gets removed, the damage is done upon removal.

Unless these were new struts being installed. Then for sure the installer failed and should have bought you new parts or did something to compensate you.

This feels right in my gut. (I expected 700-900 in parts and 700-900 in labor)

The 7.5 hrs of labor may be on the steep end for a shop that has the right tools and experience... but that also may represent their opinion that the job is so big they need to basically leave a lift dedicated to it for a full day... meaning they can't schedule any other work.

You might find a place that is willing to quote you less hours, but depending on what happens there's no promise it wont take longer...

...or this shop might be implying "up to" 7.5 hrs, but if they get it done in 4 they'll only charge you that amount. (You can clarify this with them)

If I liked the shop and trusted their work, and doing it myself wasn't an option, I wouldn't feel bad about paying this much.

kdss or non-kdss? it shouldn't take a shop 7-8 hours.

if you need to get your front shocks assembled then just purchase the top hat for it and take it to a shop to install it for you.
I had Bilstein 6112 and purchased the top hat for it. took it to a shop and they charged me $60.
don't forget to adjust the c-ring for ride height. plenty of threads regarding which c-clip to set it at to get whatever height you're trying to achieve.
I have kdss which is a PIA but (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TuNPylEV7Ak) . I used this method when i installed my kings and it was so much easier than how i originally installed my Bilstein's.
if you dont have kdss. shoot.. its even easier.

youtube some videos and you'll get the general idea.

if you ballin then might as well pay the $800 to install..... im just cheap.

I just ordered the same Eibach lift kit from Custom Offsets.
And I’m paying an extremely component tech at work $300 for the install.

With these diff drops I thought I saw different views on em, some being that they make it lean forwards thus starving the bearings and such of oil. FYI.
