I didn't expect stock tire size can rub too

I put 265/70/R17 wildpeaks on -10mm offset SCS F5 wheels
I'm very surprised that when steering wheel is turned fully and in reverse, the front tires rubs against the inner fender (front portion)

I thought only when going bigger than stock tire size can rub, but mine definitely rubs now.

Any tips on how to remedy this elegantly (not chopping things off)?

 

Wheel dimensions affect the tire placement. Your options are to go back to stock size wheels or do the super easy fender liner push mod (easiest and quickest fix).

 

Go back to stock rims.

 

The 265/70R17 Falken Wildpeak AT3W tires I had would occasionally rub at full lock / turn in reverse w/ stock wheels.

Just accept it and move on or do the fender liner push.

The wheel wells on the 4Runner are tiny so so clearance is extremely tight straight from the factory if you don't want to bite the bullet by selling what you bought and going back to factory they want to add a minimal high quality lift to get it right

 

My OEM-sized tires rub a bit the same way, and they are on OEM TRD wheels. But in my case it's from pushing out the caster to increase straight-line stability. As others have noted, there's very little wiggle room here. But it also doesn't hurt anything, and the fender liner can easily be pushed in. Or the repeated rubbing will take care of it, espec as the tread wears from normal use. I'm not bothering with mine.

 

Your wheel offset is pushing the wheels so far out, that the "arc" of their travel when you turn the wheel is larger... that's why you're rubbing.

Imagine you're standing in a tiny closet and you're holding a pie plate against your chest... now spin around in place.... now push your arms out in front of you and spin around... notice how you're knocking stuff off the shelf now? That's what your negative offset is doing to your stock tire size.

Your options are to either trim, or to go with a less aggressive offset. If my notes are correct the standard wheels are a +15mm, and the TRD SEMA wheels are +4 for reference.

 

I went to buy a heat gun and waited until this morning when the temp was not 100F to try to reshape the fender

the plastic is very hard and I had to max heat blast it for 2 mins and then it's like melting cheese.
I used a spoon to push it in where it rubs and held it for another minute for it to cool and stay the form

Also I had to remove part of the OEM mudguards

now, at full lock any direction 0 rub

thank you guys for the encouragement, I almost was going to pay a shop to roll the fender or sell the rim and get something like 0 offset
but this will do. I can't imagine how much work those -25mm offset and 285 tires gonna need to do to fit.

 

I have -12mm offset wheel and running 285/75/17 tires. I removed the mud flaps and some other plastic pieces. I have light rubbing in reverse or if I hit a big bump fast. But not bad overall. Just need to cleanup a little.

 

I've got 275s (stock wheels) on my 2019 TRD-OR and yes they do rub in reverse lock to lock - but it really is not that intense of a rub and can be easily avoided by intentionally not going full lock when backing up. Just the price we pay for the games we play....

 

275/70/17 AT3's with zero rub. Mud flaps removed.

 

I only rub aired down in reverse at lock with TRD wheels on stock sized Nittos.

 

I rub as well which really suprised me, stock size wildpeaks scs ray 10 with -10 offset camburg ucas and 6112 lift 2.5 inches. Had to remove mud flaps even after alignment

 

It's that offset. I rubbed at -6 on stock size tires.

The Rokblokz mudflaps are cut around the body mount for extra clearance, in case you prefer to keep mudflaps. I'm not sure exactly how much extra room they give you, though. FWIW, they didn't rub on mine with 285's, -6mm offset, and 3.9° caster. They did not clear 295', though.

 

Thanks for posting the pictures of the OEM Mud flap mod, I had taken mine off after installing 285/17 R17 BF Goodrich KO2's and may try modifying them so I can put them back on
