So I have the opportunity to get one of these pretty cheap. But when I look at it I for the life of me can't quite figure out how functional it is. I see there are some baskets made to be inserts but is there something I'm missing? How in the world do you pack anyting in the factory set up? I apologize if there's another thread talking about this but I was unable to locate it

    None yet!
I've recently picked up my 2022 TRD Pro, and the roof rack is the first thing I'm swapping out. The top bar generally negates any functionality it might have, IMO, and makes it 4-5 inches too tall for my purposes. I have a shorter garage entry, so putting anything on top (fishing rod vault, Yakima box, etc.) with the current rack is out of the question. Last, without a ladder, accessibility to the rack is challenging as well. Given, I'm only 5'9" so reaching anything is a challenge haha.... just my thoughts, but I don't see much of anything useful about the factory rack.

I'm looking to swap for an Uptop Overland Bravo over the winter for a lower profile, full-length rack that will give me a lot more options.

Yeah I'm thinking I might be better off just sticking with what is currently on there and using my t h u l e Moab basket as needed from time to time. I like the looks of the pro rack

    Following..

If anyone has cheap option to make TRDPRO roof rack a useful one I'm happy to learn.

Meaning I don't want to see brackets / mounts cost same as traction board or hilift jack itself..:p

Something that I can mount traction boards and hi lift jack up there SECURELY without flying off on highway.

I can't put much weight up there because it can only hold 110lbs distributed.

I will be honest. The roof rack is just some extra flair for what is TRD Pro to me.

I just picked up a '22 TRD Pro 4Runner for the wife and it will likely get used once a year. I think it is the perfect basket to have a Christmas tree sit.

I just got a used 2019 that came with a storage container. I can actually imagine using this on road trips with dog and kids.193A4FD6-BB42-4DDC-81B3-7D11C778FC16.jpg

couldn't all the cross members be moved to the top to provide a flush surface? then it would be similar in area to the regular roof rack, just a bit higher.

EDIT- ah, it looks like the rear tubular piece would be a bit higher than the cross members, giving a slightly forward slant.

There is a top bar delete kit or something.

It looks like the cross members are adjustable which should allow that to work. The top tubes are slightly closer together than the bottom. According to my level the hight front to back is pretty close. Dont see why your idea wouldn't work but i am a total newbie so take everything with grains of salt AE444CC5-B0D4-4DB2-B3C9-28EA3E9CFFCD.jpg
