My name is Mat and I have a 06 4runner sport edition V8 and I am having some electrical issues and hopefully y'all have the right answers.

So my temperature control panel only lights up, but does not work when you try to select a fan speed, fan direction or temperature reading, and also the message display with MPG reading, miles tell empty, and outside temp not working as well. I checked fuses and probably replaced majority of them when I didn't need to. Also my rear led brake lights not working either.... please help!

You only need to replace fuses if they are blown. They don't wear out. I assume you replaced them with exactly the same rated fuses?

Any electrical modifications to the car? Sound system, alarm, lights?

Rear LED brake lights? Are those aftermarket? If so, disconnect them to see if they're causing the trouble.

Thanks for the messages. Yes I replaced some of the fuses and replaced them with the same amp required and they are the original OEM LED taillights and 3rd brake light. A faulty alternator over charged my battery making it blow up and blew my 140amp fuse and caused the electrical issues. I replaced stereo, driver side window controls, turn signal control lever, windshield wiper motor, dash light switch, temperature control panel / message board, and a couple small things. It's hard to find parts due to Toyota discontinued most of the parts I need. Only modifications that are done to the 4runner were installed after the electrical issues happened.

I'm guessing the alternator was a cheap Chinese replacement. Never heard of a TOYOTA alternator doing that. Kind of an important detail you left out.

You need to get the Factory Service Manual for this generation. It will have a detailed electrical schematic.

I get mine off from ebay as downloadable PDFs...they are like $15. Then you need to learn how to read it.

Then I'd start with the tail lights and chase that all the way back to the fuse box. You may get lucky and see what fried along the way. You can look and see if the fuse is getting power with the tail lights on. If not...there may still be issues around the fuse box.

Sorry this the 4th 4runner forum I have messaged and just realized I forgot to explained what happened. Out of the 4 forums I found 3 other people that had the same things happen to them. Story of my life when I finally get the green light from the wife that I could make this 4runner my off-road toy it breaks down and most of the important parts I need Toyota discontinued. Lol

What part exactly have you had trouble getting?

On my 3rd gen 2002...I've been able to source just about everything still from TOYOTA.

For some reason It's just the 4th gen parts that I have seen so far to be harder to get. In cab fuse panel in front of the drivers left knee was discontinued and I got lucky on a used one on eBay.
