    Hey Guys,
Recently I’ve seen a couple vehicles that had black license plates, with white letters, and the red California at the top.

I looked the DMV website but could not find them, does anyone know of they are legit and where you can order them?

Similar to the attached photo only California is in red.

They are not legal. They are wrapped. I’ve seen a posting on Instagram from a place in LA. I’ll try to find their information and will update my reply when I find it.

I wanted the same, but found out it was not legal. There's a few places in the Bay Area that will wrap it, but most places will not.

Actually if they are the electronic style on the back to go along with the wrapped version on the front I do believe they are legal for California. These were just coming into vogue as I was leaving the state 18 mo ago. There are additional fees and a monthly surcharge for the rear plate. I personally think they not going to be permitted for long, too many issues are going to crop up between the DMV and the private vendors.

It's like $20/month...I'm not subscribing $20/month for a cool license plate.

^ I don't think it's cool at all, it's like an answer to a question no one asked. And why anyone in California would pay the DMV more money for anything is beyond me; that agency is the worst. I've literally never had less efficient service or paid more for that service than I have from the DMV there. Buy the cheapest random white and red plate you can and save yer money*

*Unless your vehicle is all black with dark tint and no chrome; then I think you do have to get the black legacy plate...
