My son's 2000 4runner is sitting in my driveway until insurance adjusters show up. He met up with a delivery truck that was going reverse instead of forward. He bought the 4runner 6 years ago with 42000 miles. It was driven by a school teacher who lived close to work. It now has 210000 miles. Between school, work and fishing he has driven the car hard. Our mechanic tells us no problem to reach 300000.

My question is it worth doing repairs of between 3500 and 4000. The damage is to the front passenger side. We live in Southern California so looking through the internet we find 4th generation cars with anywhere from 80-120000 miles on them being offered from 10-18000 dollars. Finding another low millage 4runner will be impossible. But I think in the long run he should look for a replacement. Of course it depends on the insurance companies. What do you think?

Just my opinion, but you are still saving money by repairing. And 4runners last forever, we have had numrous toyotas last longer than 300k.

I agree with this, I have a '96 SR5 and it has well over 300k on it and no problems. I use it as my daily driver but also my weekend warrior. Im convinced that it will last me at the very least 5 more years, then throw in a new motor or tranny, and Ill have it another 5 after that.

Another vote for repairing instead of searching for new wheels. Curious to see how much damage was actually done to the front end.

2720.jpg This is the damage received by a delivery truck. We rather get a repair

You could source some of the parts yourself and most likely save money. A bumper and fender shouldn't be hard to track down at a junk yard. I see plenty of life left in that car as well as potential. Just needs a little TLC.

Repair it. It's a cool Rig.
