I'd like to upgrade the speakers in my 2020 4runner. I'm not a audio guy, I don't need $1000 speakers. I have no jbl but have nav.

What is a simple upgrade? I believe the front doors have 6x9 subwoofers? The rear door have 6.5" and the hatch has 6.5" as well. Should I keep the subwoofers in the front or move them to the hatch. Any tips? Or input on the best bang for the buck speakers

    Thanks

There is no simple upgrade. Replacing speakers requires more than just the idea that you want “better speakers” because in reality, without a specific goal, and the ability to discern whether a product will satisfy this expectation, just tossing in a “speaker upgrade” is likely to yield disappointing results.

You have to know how to get a better result than the engineer who designed the OEM system if you are going to alter part of it.

You are up against the reality that the stereo was internally tuned to be using the speakers that came with your truck, that it has a very low power output, and you have almost no capacity in the radio to compensate for a big change in the efficiency or voice profile when you replace just the speakers.

You should also definitely budget for treating the doors for vibration, proper mounting brackets, wiring adapters, and weather stripping when replacing the factory speakers.

I agree with both posts above. It's worth taking time to choose, and reading some reviews and general information.

I have upgraded the front speakers only, so far. I knew I wasn't going to be replacing the head unit or adding an amp right away, so I looked for speakers with a high efficiency rating. It's usually rated as SPL @ 1 watt/ 1 meter when you look at specs. The higher the efficiency, the more output you should get with a given amount of power.

I went with the JL audio C1-690 component setup. I'm satisfied with it. It's not any louder than the OEM stuff, but cleaner and has better lows.
