Tired of the sun blinding you!?! We couldn't take it anymore so I designed our own hood scoop vinyl decal. It is made from Black Oracal 951M Premium Cast Vinyl. Ours has been on the car 3 years and looks just as good as the day we installed it. (The pictures shown are current, the vinyl shown is over three years old). The install is a easy DIY that anyone can do in 10-15 mins. The hood scoop on the 5th Generation 4Runners (09-Present) has that perfect angle to bounce the sun right in your eyes, this matte black decal fixes that issue. Selling these to forum members for $30 + $5 shipping. Just like the strips I make, full disclosure, I am making about $3 on each one. I am not a business so I don't get a break on pricing on the materials.

    PM me if interested!

Edit: By popular demand... I acquired some 3M Topo vinyl with a 7yr "guarantee". Installation is different and I am writing directions but it is actually less steps and "doesn't adhere" until pressured down. Expensive material so they are $60/ea + $5 shipping.

Edit 2: Full visibility, I am working on getting a discount on the vinyl on my next order, I may be able to get a few dollars off each, I will update the price if I can work a deal with the supplier. I'm not trying to make money off the forum community. Done!

Edit 3: I also offer pillar decals that match the scoops now
    https://www.4runners.com/threads/trd-off-road-side-decals.26072/

Edit 4: If damaged in shipping, write "Return to sender" on package and let me know. USPS is "Ace Ventura-ing" some packages and denying claims. Now shipping with thick cardboard tubes to cut down on damages/inconveniences.

Edit 5: Added Grey with black contours and Army Green with grey contours to the inventory. Limited quantity of both because not sure the interest level.

Edit 6: Scoop lettering is now offered at $10 each add-on to hood scoop decal.

Edit 7: Not offering scoop lettering anymore unless you had already purchased a scoop from me prior. (Trying to not step on other members business.) Also, added hood scoop topo colors! (Limited run 2 of each unless I get more requests and pre-pays)

Edit 8: Got a sale on vinyl. This roll I can drop price $5 each. Now $30 each. As long as I keep the discount I can keep the price at $30

Edit 9: As of right now 3/9/23; my vinyl supplier has JACKED the price of the black with dark grey topo contours... I only have one left. If you want it, PM me. If I have to order vinyl for that color scheme going forward, they will be $110 each. They seriously jacked the price up and it comes out to $28.50 more per scoop decal. We are currently looking for a new supplier.

I would gladly have taken you up on one of these, but I literally just got one from another source in the last week or so. I know you probably send something printed with yours that details the installation, and if you have something like that you could email, I'd appreciate it. Or, if you know of an available installation video, maybe you could link that. If not, no big.

Looks great, good luck with selling these. Kudos for coming up with a solution to the glare.

Ever thought about seeing if the OEM 22 TRD PRO Tacoma hood decal would work? Im sure there would need some cutting.

How would it work over a protective film on the hood?

I haven't looked, I know the Tacoma scoops are a bit different, that's why I just designed and cut my own haha. I know the "scoop trim" piece is different and has different angles

Ours (the charcoal one) is installed on the factory hood hood film, no issues at all.

Well the OEM Tacoma TRD Pro has this really cool topographic map. Thought it’d be a really cool addition.

Oh! I see what you are talking about. "Topo" seems to be the "in thing" right now. (I'm guilty as well, I have my OneWheel all Topo'ed out haha) Prinsu is selling that strip now too. If I can find the material I might be able to make something happen but it is EXPENSIVE and finding one with a good warranty is the issue as well. Oracal "guarantees" their vinyl for 10 years while 3m only guarantees for 3-5. That's why I ended up going with Oracal. Also it is thin so it doesn't build up dirt around the edges like the thicker stuff

It looks like I can get this material (below). It is 3m so they are 5-7 year rated. Looks like I could probably do them for $65 each plus $5 shipping. It seems to be pretty decent quality (better than the one I was talking about the other day.
Reach out if anyone is interested. I would take some time because I would have to order sheets of it and wait for it to get to me before cutting it out.

Since you make these, I was wondering what your thoughts were on just using vinyl wrap material and cutting it on the truck like this guy did:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vgQ86UF5euA

I imagine, though, putting that cutting tape on perfectly would take quite a bit of time...

yeah, he used the "no-water" stuff. That tape he used is a good trick. The vinyl he used is not very forgiving and it hard to get wrinkles out of but it is definitely an option. Laying the tape perfectly is a trick. I can do it "sometimes" only because I have painted quite a few cars. I did notice that he left the two front corners sharp, those will lift eventually. I have played with that and in the summers in particular, a little edge like that will give issues. He did a good job and it should work for him. If you decide to go that route, definitely do a test piece so you know how it behaves before ruining the whole roll and be VERY careful that it doesn't stick to itself. My vinyl is "a little" forgiving if it sticks to itself, the dry stuff is a nightmare when that happens.

I have the vinyl already (don't hate - I didn't order it from you, unfortunately), but where I live it's been constantly windy for several weeks, and I don't have a garage, just a carport. I'm waiting for a nice day with no wind to install my vinyl decal.

All good! haha! Watch out for that wind for sure, ALSO dust! No hate over here! I am only making 2 or 3 on them to forum members and it costs me that much to get to the post office haha! Good luck, PM me if you get in a bind or have questions before installing it. I have a little experience with other vinyls.

    Hi there,
I have the Apex paint film on the entire hood. Can your product be installed over the existing paint film? If it can be, I will like order it in flat black.

Yes and no, I can put them in the same box but I am not "making money" on them. I sell them on the forum for basically what they cost me being that I am not a shop or anything. I pay retail on the vinyl etc. When I get deals on the vinyl I drop the price. Haha. Bad business! Haha!
