Help me with my kdss situation

    Okay guys, I’ve got a 2021
    ORP and have weighted it down in the back a bit since last year. I’m gonna give you the weights and items to see what you would recommend me do to support the load; but keep in mind that I don’t want to sacrifice ride quality.

    Rear Gear (w/Airlift 1000)
    Gobi Rack with ladder ~100lbs
    Ultraswing ~65lbs
    55IM with slide empty ~85lbs
    Ruffland BackseatRider~20lbs
    Boxer Dog ~60
    Camping Gear ~100lbs
    Roofnest Condor ~130lbs
    Bike Rake with bikes ~60lbs
    Molle Panel and gear ~25lbs
    Toolbag ~15lbs
    Ecoflow River Pro ~35lbs


    Front Gear (w/1.5” Cornfed)
    Single ARB Comp ~5lbs

    Possible add-ons
    Front Bumper and winch ~190lbs
    ARB 2000 Awning ~35lbs


    What would you do? I really like the look of the Wescott Design TRD Pro or 3” toytec lift.

    RSG sliders, Yakima offgrid basket, Pro-Comp wheels, SOS Streamline bumper and skids, Warn VR EVO10S winch + Ultimate Sidewinder, Bilstein 6112 + 5100 + rear lift coils, Rigid Dually SS ditch lights w/Caliraised brackets and OEM style dash switch
    I went with 400# constant load springs from Bilstein in back, and medium duty 6112's in front. I imagine other manufacturers offer different spring rates as well.

    Ride quality is subjective. I think most aftermarket setups will be firmer than the OEM shocks.

    If you are going to haul an extra 700 lbs. around, won't that offset some of the stiffness of heavier rate springs?

    I'm not really referring to spring rates, though. I think the valving of the shocks adds to the firmer ride.

    Gotcha. My question remains - will the extra weight help mitigate that firmer valving?

    How about after adding all that weight go to a Toyota specialized 4x4 shop that has a scale so they can recommend what springs to run? Or get the slip from a scale place and take it to a Toyota 4x4 shop so they will recommend what springs to run?

    I can't say for sure. But, I will say that the rear of mine can get bouncy on whoops. If I had to guess, the 5100's might be a little overpowered between the weight and heavy springs.

    This is a great idea! Some shops can even custom valve shocks for a specific application.

    @Toyota.ARK it could be worth looking at custom set up shocks from Accutune or another custom shock builder (if there are any others?). Radflo will also customize shocks for a customer.

    Did I mention I live on Long Island. There’s not a shop here that specializes in Toyota. They are jeep dodge and God knows whatever else freaks.

    You could go weigh it at a truck stop, and send the results to a shop. :notsure:

    The maximum payload capacity of my '22 ORP stated on the sticker on the drivers door jam is 880lbs. If your 4R is similar you won't be able to carry any passengers with all that added weight. I don't think that number can be easily changed.
