I dont understand why you need to mount your phone?
Just stick in a pocket or the center console and use the blue tooth wireless.
With the touchscreen and all the steering wheel controls, I manage to talk on my phone all day while driving and it is much safer .

I use off-road maps which don't display on the screen. I also am one of the few who is a Apple fan boy but hates CarPlay.

We are looking for something like this do you remember what you got for your kit? Was pricing together a kit from ram mount and it was going to be almost 300.00 without the xgrip for the iPad Pro 12.9

I just went and measured the arm at 18", I'm pretty sure it was this one: https://www.arkon.com/product/TAB-FSM-ipad-car-mount-holder.html
It's a little more expensive than the 22", I guess because it comes with more brackets and versatility.

I use a ProClip center dash mount and the associated iPhone holder. It is fantastic. No drilling/cutting (a requirement for me) and it is super stable even when bouncing around off pavement. Have done a few week-long overlanding trips with no problems.

It worked so well I added a second to hold a Garmin InReach mini so it could have a clear view of sky + be near charting port. You can get one of these adapter ball plates to mount anything that uses a ball, like the Garmin came with. But other RAM stuff would work too.

I really like this - but, did you consider mounting it on the top right corner there and then turning the phone horizontal? It would be less blocked by the steering wheel and still keep a low profile.

I loved my scosche magic mount, but my phone would fall off when I did harder off road trails. I ended going with a ram mount x-grip, it seems to be doing a good job for me. It is a little big, but works for my needs.

Does anyone know the part number or where to get a replacement for the radio trim/bezel? Most phone mount solutions require drilling into the plastic bezel for attachment but I'd like to know there are replacement options before drilling mine. Ideally, I would purchase one to drill into instead of ruining the one in there now.
Looks like there are 4 different options so part numbers or links for all would be beneficial for future thread searchers:

    1. Silver Pre-2020
    2. Black/Speckled Pre-2020 (this is the one I have and the one I see most often so I'd say most critical)
    3. Silver 2020+
    4. Black/Speckled 2020+

I have a Ram mount now, based on some of the replies in this thread. It's meh. Even after I tighten it down it still flops around on bumpy roads and trails, and it's a bit of a pain to get my phone in and out. I wanted something that could be operated using one hand, this wasn't really the answer but the price was right

I had a Panavise mount in my Tacoma that I loved. It was pricy ( which is why I went for the Ram mount) but looking back now it was worth the money. I'm holding out hope someone makes a decent one with a built in wireless charger that I can just hard wire.

I went with the vent mount yesterday. Waiting for it to arrive. I already had the phone holder from my Subaru. Another option I want to go with if this is not sufficient is the LabOps mount.

It comes with a mini ball that is compatible with many aftermarket mounts... this is one I took off a Spigen iPhone magnetic mount. You can also purchase Ram compatible balls from Course Motorsports.

Threads are 10-32, so I added a 3/4" standoff from McMaster-Carr (part: 93505A175) to push it out a bit. Seems to be the sweet spot to keep my phone angled a little bit towards me.

I really like the ProClip. Its nice how easy it is to spin it into landscape mode. Very sturdy so far. Only issue is now the CarPlay cord is slightly in the way of the radio. Not that big of a deal because it puts the phone 8-10 inches closer than my previous mount.

Concerning that cord, on the Subaru I filed a very small groove in the plastic faceplate seam so I could run the cord behind the radio, under the shifter panel, and into the center console where there is a +12V power (cig) outlet. Nice and tidy and the cord is hidden. But I haven’t done that to the 4R yet.

I've been happy with this setup. I like the phone off the dash and the 4 in 1 comes with multiple options to position it where you want. No rattle even on the washboards. Just need to mess with the placement angles a bit to make sure you can minimize glare and optimize face ID angles.

I kinda prefer the KISS method and the Scosche Pro magnetic mount has held my iPhone XR in place (on my Yamaha Rhino) during years of trail riding with never a drop so it made sense to me to try the same mount in the 4runner. Even though I’m right handed the logical place for me to mount it was just below the far lefthand ac register as I basically just need a place to stow it while driving. I’ll try to post a picture. I used the Quad Lock system for my phones on my mountain bike and I purchased their windshield suction cup mount and put it on the left of the windshield. It fits snug and I do not think it will ever drop off of the windshield. I wanted to move it down a bit after installing it and I thought I was going to pull the windshield off. You can even get a wireless charge option.
