Have done a lot of digging and research trying to track our 4R's journey to the states. Not finding a thread on this I thought to share some resources I've found.

It appears that Toyota uses two ports to ship out of Japan, Nagoya and Toyohashi.

    Nagoya:
    https://www.vesselfinder.com/ports/JPNGO001
    https://www.marinetraffic.com/en/ais/details/ports/2715?name=NAGOYA&country=Japan

    Toyohashi:
    https://www.vesselfinder.com/ports/JPTHS001
    https://www.marinetraffic.com/en/ais/details/ports/18457?name=TOYOHASHI&country=Japan

Three shipping companies commonly used are their own Toyofuji, Kawasaki Kisen KK(aka K Line), and NYK RORO

In most recent times it appears these 3 vessels frequent US ports from the two ports listed above.

    New Century 1

    New Century 2

    Adriatic Highway

*IF you have any info to add please inform me so I can update.

I can totally relate to the excitement that comes with waiting for your beloved vehicle to arrive.

Toyota also uses the Equuleus Leader that goes round trip from the Tahara facility (via Toyohashi) to Portland, OR.

Hey, kudos to you for going all out to track your 4Runner's journey to the states! It's like a high-stakes treasure hunt, but with a fantastic car waiting at the end. Your willingness to share those resources is super helpful to fellow car enthusiasts. We're all in this together, right? And speaking of making things easier, if you ever want to simplify the tracking process or get some extra insights, you might want to give Ship Vehicles a whirl. They can be like your trusty co-pilot in navigating this vehicle shipping adventure.

If your dealer will share with you in Dealer Daily the date it is scheduled to leave Japan and which port it will arrive at stateside, it isn't that hard to figure out which vehicle carrier ship your new ride is on. Then, you can follow that ship all the way across the Pacific using vessel finder or the like.

It is rather fun to track that ship on its ocean voyage.

I'm in the same boat (no pun intended) and am anxiously counting down the days until my 4R arrives on the west coast!

I just put a deposit down last week on my 2024 ORP that left Tahara on 12/30. I wish I knew the vessel number, but for what it's worth the dealership said it should be arriving on the west coast any day now. Does anyone know what the typical turn around is on when the 4R reaches the port before its loaded up on a truck and shipped out? I live about 1000 miles away from the Pacific so weather permitting, I'd think it would only take 2 or 3 days for it to get to the dealership. In the meantime I've been watching nearly every 4R video I can find on YouTube, and of course decided to join this site :p

It generally needs to find a train ride, which is subject to shifting schedules. Mine was supposed to be a week, but it sat in the train yard for closer to two weeks.

I didn't even think of trains. The eta for it to arrive at the dealership is a window of late January through mid March. I obviously hope it gets there this month, but have accepted it'll likely be next month sometime.

My GX, which uses all of the same transports the 4Runner uses since its built at the same factory, had the following schedule to give you an example:

    1 - Built at Tahara on 10/27
    2 - Shipped from Japan on 11/1
    3 - Arrived in Portland, OR 11/15
    4 - Put on a train 12/5
5 - Arrived at the regional Toyota port 12/13
    6 - Hauled to dealership 12/22

All of those times are somewhat consistent with two exceptions, the time between #3 and #4 and the time between #5 and #6. As backpacker said, it might sit at the oceanside terminal waiting for a train for who knows how long. Then, it may sit at the regional Toyota port awaiting its turn for port-installed options and transport to your dealership for another unknown amount of time.

From Tahara to Portland, then the wait for a train and the dealership dance – it's a rollercoaster. As backpacker rightly pointed out, the waiting game at the oceanside terminal and the regional Toyota port is the real challenge.

If you're delving into the shipping world, A1AutoTransport https://www.a1autotransport.com/texas-tx-car-shipping/ could be your guide. Insights from fellow car enthusiasts can make the wait a bit more bearable!

    The old way.

In 1984 I bought a new Celica GTS that hadn't shipped yet. The salesguy was a really good and helpful guy. He called me every time that car made a move - it's being loaded tomorrow, it's on the boat. it's in port in SF, it's on the train, it's in Chicago, it arrives at the dealership on Tuesday. It was pretty cool to get those updates.

Hi, I just found this thread myself as my dealer just let me know that my 4Runner just arrived in the US port this week (February 13,2024 or thereabouts) , yes very exciting as I am on the east coast, upstate NY. I am hopeful that I will see it in the next few months but I have no date.

Welcome. Request a Dealer Daily screenshot from your salesperson. This will have an estimated arrival date and any current movement details.

I wanted to circle back and close the loop.
My truck arrived “in port” on the 12th of February and my dealer just contacted me to to say that the truck is on the lot, here in Upstate NY on February 28th…it is very exciting. I will take delivery next friday. He sent me a picture, right off the delivery, it needs the rock rails installed and prepped.
