When the light turned green, suddenly the engine started. Oh my God, no, that feature is awful. That is awful, I'll never buy a Bronco

It was the two door bad boy Bronco, not the small crossover.

That is what the hybrid cars do, but since they have a battery, so it feels smooth

A lot of vehicles have that, including the new Tundra. Most of them you can turn it off at will. It's not that big of a deal.

In the Bronco, I would imagine that it probably shuts off as soon as you put it into four-wheel drive, as that would be less than ideal on the trail.

I saw a Bronco today too. Actually. It was parked in somebody's driveway. I was walking my dog, so I had time to get a good look and really think about it. It was the one with the Sasquatch package, it was that cool blue gray color with 35s and a soft top. It looked badass.

Say what you will about the potential reliability, they look way cooler than the 4Runner. I'm just saying, Toyota better step it up with the next gen. If it takes more than a slight lift to fit 35s, it's a fail.

Yes but it is too fancy, 4Runner is simple. I love the 5th gen 4Runner

I'm a Toyota guy, but I do have a 2-door Bronco on order. I ordered a 2nd one for my wife to drive while I wait on mine. You can pretty much order a 4-door soft top and get it quick. Yes, the auto start/stop can be disabled with a push button but you have to do that every time you start the car. The Bronco is cool but still has its' quirks. The mirrors are too huge and block site-lines, especially when turning left. Her automatic transmission seems to hunt for gears when you press the skinny pedal. The front driveshaft is a joke!!

Eh. The 2 door looks decent. The 4 door is ugly.

I do hope that Toyota really brings it with the next 4Runner. But, fitting 35's without a BMC won't be a deal-breaker for most. It would, however, be very appealing to a small percentage of buyers.

Broncos are interesting but the combination of being too wide for the trails I like and unproven long term reliability and I tend to keep vehicles a long time is why I have a deposit on a 22 ORP. I might have to wait for the 23’s, I tend to get fussy when I lay out $50 grand so I want what I want, I’m in no hurry. I just want it, I don’t need it. I was considering waiting for a 6th gen but the massive amount of turbo plumbing/complexity on the new Tundra nixed that idea.

Huh? I'm talking about the new Bronco.

Just like the Wrangler, the 2 door version is better looking, and likely better off-road. I'm not talking about a family vehicle.

    And, I have a 4Runner (4 door).

And, what do you mean about the driveline? The 2nd gen 4Runner? Same driveline as what?

The Bronco drives more like a 4Runner than a Jeep. I tried driving an FJ, but it has too many blind spots for me to feel comfortable in. The removable top of the Bronco + the IFS makes it fit right between a Jeep and a 4Runner. It won't last like a Toyota, but the axles don't break like a Jeep either.

The Rubicon is still the offroad King. In one Youtube video they compared all the 4, the articulation in the Rubicon was insane. It takes A LOT for the Rubicon to lift a wheel in the air.

    Ha! NP.

I like a 4 door better for a passenger vehicle as well. I just think the 2 door Wrangler and Bronco are better than the 4 door versions for trail use.

I think the Rubicon comes with better axles (Dana 45?) than the regular Wrangler (Dana 30, I think). But, you're correct, the 30's are pretty flimsy from what I understand.

For off-road use, the Wrangler definitely has advantages. But, the Bronco is probably better all around. Although, I still think Ford could have done better.

The 2nd gen is 0.3” longer in wheelbase and only 1.75” longer overall and has they same engines, transmissions and axles as the 1st gen (not the early straight axles).
I tend to think they would be very comparable off road.
I’m retired and take my buddies into the mountains to go plinking regularly(see my pic) and the 4dr is obviously far more convenient getting +60yr old full size men in/out of the back seat.

Oh, 2nd gen 4runner VS 1st gen, then? Yeah, I would love to have my '94 back as a trail toy! :D

Actually, I really liked that vehicle all around.

The Rubicon comes with the Advantek M210 solid front axle. The Bronco Sasquatch comes with the Advantek M210 IFS diff. The non-Sasquatch Bronco's get the smaller M190 axles. The popular upgrade for Rubicon owners is to replace the axles, when they break (and they will) with RCV axles for about $1,200/set. The RCV's do away with the U-joint and use a ball bearing just like the Toyota CV axles.

Jeep's website says the Rubicon comes with Dana 44's front and rear.

They say M210 front and M220 rear for the Rubicon. I think Dana44 and M210 must be interchangeable terms then.

Maybe those are the specific models, and Dana 44 is the generic term. :notsure:

I would have thought the 44's would bw able to take some abuse, since they offer 35's from the factory. That sucks if you have to plan on upgrading axles.

I know some guys who wheel pretty hard, and I believe they run Dana 60's.

I must say, Toyota does a pretty good job with the factory IFS axles. I know there are beefed up aftermarket options. But, they seem to hold up pretty well to moderate abuse.

It's funny, I actually think the two doors look a little bit goofy. I see how they're inspired by the original, but I'm just not into two doors. I feel the same way about 2dr Wranglers, in fact, I'm always surprised when I see one because they're so rare these days. Even if this was just a fun weekend car for me, I would prefer the four-door.

You're probably right, Toyota will look at the market and realize that the majority of the people that buy these are not going to be fitting larger tires. However, it would be nice to at least be able to fit a 33 on it without worrying about maybe possibly having to do the BMC. I do think that's pretty ridiculous.

And since 35s are the new 33s, it would be nice to be able to fit them without too much work.

I looked it up because I too thought they came with D-44s. That seems to just be the part numbers designated the front and rear D44s.

I meant to say that I would love to be able to put 35's on a 4Runner without having to hack the shit out of it. I hope they design them for it.

I just meant that it wasn't going to make or break the success of the 6th gen. I think it would certainly bring in a few extra sales, though.

I've been a Toyota guy since 1994. I had a bronco on a reservation. Dealer called, wanted 5k markup even though it was being built for me. Told me 5k on orders, 10k if purchased off the lot. I wasn't happy but the hype got me so I said ok. It was suppose to be built in Jan 2022. A month later no updates, called the dealer, they were waiting on A part but no details on that part. I then went online, found a vid on YT, ice mountain bronco, 100's and 100's of Broncos sitting in the snow. I then sent that to my dealer. He was in shock. I researched a lil more. If you wanted a V6, Hardtop, Lux sound system, Auto, etc etc etc all delayed the build. I contacted my dealer and quickly cancelled my order and started looking for my 4Runner. I was waiting for the redesign but it was pushed out so I decided to go with whats been proven and reliable. I'm happy with my decision, 2022 4Runner TRD Pro, picked up on 3/11/22. Slight draw back on the camera image quality considering it's a 2022. I still have access to my bronco order and it's still not done. I recently received an email saying they are working on it lol. Found a recent article stating they are sending customer orders to dealers for sale because they can get 20k markups and the customers with orders are left waiting. So shady!

No I agree. If they look at it purely by the numbers, they probably won't see a business case for spending the engineering dollars. Maybe they'll not be such accountants for a little while and think of it as an opportunity to have halo vehicle, and offer some kind of equivalent to the Sasquatch package just to get people interested and get them into the showroom. It probably wouldn't steal too many sales from Jeep, but they may be able to sway people who would otherwise purchase a Bronco.

I look at it like this, I live in Rhode Island, there are very few trails around here where one can even take advantage of the capability of a stock 4Runner, never mind a Bronco or Rubicon. Yet. I still see plenty of Rubicon's, Bronco Sasquatches, and TRD Pros around. People buy them because they look cool, not because they necessarily need the capability or ever plan on using it.

I think if the next gen 4Runner had all the features that the Bronco has, plus a fixed steel roof and Toyota reliability, it would be a huge hit with people that may not otherwise look at them, AND make existing 4Runner enthusiasts very excited.

I guess time will tell. I actually like what they did with the new Sequoia, so hopefully the 4R turns out cool.

Really though, this is all theoretical for me. I really have no horse in this race, because I can't justify spending anywhere near the kind of money that these vehicles go for.

I believe that the m210, m220 are the size of the ring gear in millimeters

Front high pinion Dana 44 8.268 inch ring gear.

Rear low pinion Dana 44 8.661 inch ring gear
