Just for my own clarity, you have to have the transmission plate for this to be compatible?

Evidently Clarksburg, WV where the property crime ranking is 66.7 compared to a national average of 35.4. Oh, and violent crime is 25 vs 22.7.

Hm interesting fact, I’m not city folk tho, people think 2,3,4 times before wondering into someone’s place in the woods around here tho. Even the tweakers.

Its everywhere. Even where you think it won't happen. Half the problem is the scrap yards turn a blind eye.

I had one stolen off my Titan about 12 years ago, it was parked in front of my house. Right now for the FJ and 4Runner though I had our buddy weld rebar.

Hate to break the news to you but it would be a lot easier for me to steal a cat under your truck than in a city.

Cat theft is so 2021, now they’re drilling your tank and stealing your gas.

I'm interested. Hotel parking lots are a vulnerability for me. Nothing is foolproof though. If they want it bad enough they will get it.

I've got RCI skid plates on my 4R (engine, transmission, transfer case and gas tank) so was happy to see that RCI has a bolt on option to protect from cat theft. That said, the RCI option doesn't cover the vulnerable location behind the frame brace that IS covered by the Talon's Garage "wing" that comes with their transmission skid/cat cover. So, I reached out to Talon's Garage and asked if they would sell the "wing" component separate from the whole skid package and they said "No, not available separately". Bummer!

I may go ahead and get the RCI bolt on option as it would prevent getting the cat out of the vehicle but wouldn't prevent cutting one side loose. Maybe enough deterrence to send a thief to a different vehicle...

    Cheers,
    Bob

I have to check if I can use this skid with stock Toyota skid. If those 2 bolts and the plate align with the stock oil drain skid plate its golden. $125 is very reasonable price for cat theft.

Just realized this is only these 2 flaps.

    upload_2022-3-14_12-49-53.jpg

You need to have the RCI transmission skid plate to fix these 2 flaps.

    upload_2022-3-14_12-50-55.jpg

I also asked if I can install these without removing the RCI transmission skid on my TRD since I'm too lazy to remove, I would need to remove both trans mission and transfer case skid. In order to fix these 2 flaps you need to remove the RCI transmission skid.

I wish it were an isolated problem. It seems to happen in the suburbs as much as in the city.

    Exactly!

I know I said it on another thread, but ever since scrap copper jumped in price ~15 years ago, I have to show identification to recycle scraps from work.

Meanwhile, folks show up with a trunk full of catalytic converters and it's just "here's your money!"

Seriously, WTF?? With very few exceptions, there's no way any one person should have more than one every few months, or years even.

My father owned a shop for years and did exhausts all day. He would maybe have 3 or 4 in a few months to scrap. CATS can last a LONG time. These guys are showing up with shiny new cats and they are paying cash for them. Some cities are telling people to inscribe the last 8 of your vin and painting them with super bright orange or yellow heat resistant paint so when the cops show up to the yards they can spot them from a mile away..

Just ordered these for my KDSS aluminum skids I have already. I still need the fuel tank skids, maybe this year.
