Hello all. Are the 2 tie-down points at the front of the 4runner considered recovery points or are those used for tie-downs when the vehicle was transported overseas?

They are tie downs for transporting, but several members have used them for recovery with no problems.

They are mentioned in the manual as suitable for towing on flat surfaces for a limited distance.

if you use them for recovery situations, use caution.

RCI aluminum skids (front, trans, TC, and gas), RCI steel sliders 20 degree no plates with kickout, Treaty Oak recovery points, LFD stainless crossbars, Greenlane ladder, Toyo Open Country AT III, Bilstein 5100s, OME (front 2” lift) and Eibach (rear 1”lift) coils
If you used a bridle for both points and needed a minor tow out of a tough spot, you are probably OK. If you are stuck on something good or deep in mud and need a more of a jerk recovery, I wouldn’t trust them too much. You will probably be OK if this was a one off, but you are taking a chance.

Did anybody search about this AFE option? Seems like they bolt on directly to sway bar location. But so far I only see Tundra using it, none for 4Runner even though its in the 4Runner product list. Install seems to be much easier than other options. But by the looks they don't look that strong.

The sway bar bracket bolts are too small. These are likely weaker than the factory welded hoop on the front crossmember.

I see.. Thanks for that info. Little surprising though for a known company like AFE Power having a product published as "Dedicated recovery points" that are not safe for recovery.
