Under-carriage rust

I am considering used 2004 4Runner but little bit concerned with under carriage rusts. What do you think? It is mostly surface rusts? All my previous Lexus SUVs had under carriage covers but this particular 4Runner doesn't have any, is this normal?

 

I have a 2008 Urban Runner with 130K and it has any rust at all. If it's just surface rust you should be ok. Looks like it has been exposed to salt.

 

Your under carriage rusts look like my 2007 4runner. In Montreal with all the salt used during winter it does not take long for a car to look like this. 2 years ago I purchase a mix of oil and grease and soot it with an air gun. The result is just amazing and stop the rust process. It might just be what you need.

 

I agree it looks like salt ... Heavily treated roads, or running through the surf. That's a fair amount of corrosion.

 

IMO i think thats pretty significant as far as surface rust goes. Obviously exposed to salt but doesnt look like the PO washed it often or really noticed. My 4runner has been in new england/new york its entire life and doesnt look even close to that
