Do I need BMC For 285/70/17 tires?

    going to get a 2.5 inch lift. Bilstein 5100's on my TRD PRO wheels.

    My local auto shop says that I MUST do a BMC.. is there any way around that? What can I advise them to do instead in order to keep the 285 size tires?

    Probably not, have them set the caster as far forward as they can. The closer to 4 the better is the consensus when going with bigger tires. If you’re getting aftermarket upper control arms, this is much easier to do. Then you may just have to do some minor trimming in the front bumper, but that is much easier/better than doing a BMC.

    I'm not sure about the BMC. Do you have springs that gives you 2.5 in lift? I didn't need BMC even for my Limited with 2.5 front and 1.5 rear lift with stock UCA. All I did was I did some trimming on the front fender liner and push it forward. I'm not if wheels and tires matter, I got TRD OR wheels with Falken Wildpeak AT3W P285/70R17.

    If Limited does not need BMC needless to say my TRD ORP did not need BMC.

    Hey Alex,

    You will not need a BMC. Bought my 2020 4Runner from the lot with 285 75 17 Nitto Ridge Grabblers and Front-Rear Bilstein 5100s. Also, had stock UCAs. Since then, I upgraded my suspension and UCAs. I would recommend, if you decide to run 35s like I plan in the near future, then BMC for sure.

    OP-all rigs are a little different.
    I can tell you that I ran 2.5 inch lift on my Pro with stock wheels on 285/70/17 Nitto RGs with SPC's and never needed a chop.
    This may have been due to the ability to push the wheels a touch forward due to the SPC arms.
    I wheeled my rig too, no problems.

    I have 2021 Nightshade, and planning to replace the wheels/tires with 17" TRD Pro ones. Looking for tires which can go well with the new wheels without any lifts/BMC or rubbing. Any recommendations ?

    Not really sure what options without lift. May be 265/70R17s. If it rubs push the fender liner forward.

    My Limited has a lift, 2.5 front and 1.5 rear Bilstien 5100, stock UCA. I like that stance and 285 tires fill nicely. (They are Falken Wildpeak AT3W (non LT) P285/70R17.

    You don't NEED to. I'd say drive it first and see where you actually rub.

    I only rubbed on the front bumper.

    i think it depends on what tires you're running, there are guys in here that are running 285's stock UCA with just 2.5 inch lift and no rubbing.

    but then if tires are beefy like Nittos or Cooper stt, then maybe they'll rub.

    With 285's, the biggest factors that cause rubbing on your body mount are your wheel offset, wheel width, and alignment. As your offset gets lower and lower into the negatives, you will start to rub the body mount. Wider wheels have more of a chance of rubbing. Larger lifts with no UCA's will have more of a chance at rubbing on your body mount.

    If you run Pro wheels with 285's, I don't think you'll rub on the body mount. If you happen to, get UCA's, push your caster to +4 and you will clear it. You will have to do the fender liner mod if they don't already come on the Ventures.
