Hello everyone. I've got a little problem I need some advice on. So in past couple months my 4runner has started making this squeaking noise like rubber against metal kinda squeak. At the beginning it was hardly noticeable but has gradually increased and now pretty noticeable but only at low speeds. Forward or back, doesn't matter. Does it even when not applying the brakes. The cashier in the drive thru can definitely hear me pulling up to the window now lol. Have tried to locate where its coming from but have only determined from the back end, doesn't sound worse or better on passenger vs driver side. Also don't think its suspension related as I can be driving on nice smooth pavement and still squeaks. I bought towards end of last year and had it checked over by Toyota and surprisingly it passed their inspections besides routine fluid flushes based off mileage. It has 196k miles and its rear wheel drive only. Any help is appreciated, this noise is getting nails on a chalkboard annoying!! Thanks!

Do the 4th gens have greasable u joints? My 5th gen has three on the rear drive shaft. Two u joints and the slip yoke. Might want to start with greasing those zerks.

Last time I was at a dealer to attempt a warranty claim on the needle bearing, they gave me a print out saying I passed their eleventy-hundred point inspection. Apparently it even included inspecting the transmission oil level in my sealed transmission…. All for free!!! Such nice guys….

They charged me an hours time though to tell me they can’t hear the needle bearing making noise though.

edit: not sure if my sarcasm comes through. But what im saying is, Im sure any “inspection” where you are not directly charged for that inspection time, did not actually occur.

2wd 4th gens should have no grease-able zerks, its "unserviceable". Consistent rubber on metal sound makes me think a bushing somewhere. Rear control arms, sway bar bushings, shock bushings maybe? The road doesnt have to be bad for your suspension to cycle, making a sound come through
