    Ain't that the truth.

My good friend sold his (original owner) 2003 Evo in 2010, with 66k miles, clean title, RRE 2.3/TRE trans, GT3071, AEM EMS etc etc, for $10.5k. Makes me cry thinking about it. It had a driveability issue that turned out to be a crank position sensor. I stayed in touch with the 2nd owner and that engine lived a long, long life, getting the crap beat out of it with incrementally bigger and bigger turbo setups. It wouldn't die. I wish I'd bought that car.

LOL.... Evo's can be strange. I find friends are either dealing with a problem child or a bulletproof monster.

Personally, I will never, ever buy any vehicle over 200k.

"IF" you chose a high mileage vehicle, engines are pretty easy to determine their condition. As are most other components of the vehicle. That is other than the AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION.

Auto Transmissions are nearly impossible to determine their "true" condition. Meaning you can not access the fluid easily to inspect it (NO dipstick). So it's basically a complete crap shoot when buying a high mileage auto transmission vehicle.

Clutch material inside the Torque Converter (for Locking Up) and clutch material in between that gears is impossible to determine how much is left/useable. Ever hear of Torque Converter Shudder ? Very common problem.

How the vehicle was treated or ABUSED by previous owners (How many ?) is pretty much a huge unknown as well.
