    Rust. Rust. Rust.

Make a list BEFORE you go. Your emotions will screw with you.

Check for blown head gasket. Take a coolant test kit.
Let it idle for 15 minutes while you inspect. Make sure it doesn't overheat.
Also take a code reader and look for codes and if it is ready for emissions testing. Sellers will clear codes before demoing their cars.
Check all fluid levels. I've gone to look at cars where no oil was in the engine or transmission. Hard pass.
    Check the AC.
    Check the heater.
    Check for leaking shocks\struts.
    Check for worn suspension bushings.

OR just get a mechanic and pay them to look. They will do a better job as they can check ball joints, wheel bearings, etc.

2003 was the first year of a new model, and I recall hearing that they weren't quite up to spec in terms of quality from a friend that owned one. It's only one data point, but you may want to look into it.

Take a screwdriver with you and poke the frame. You are looking to see if they painted over the rust which some people will do. Beware of the rust.

I have been finding this on a lot of them. Is there a repair for it? I can negotiate the price if I have a plan in mind. I know it’s not ideal but I’m buying a 20 year old vehicle too

No repair for that kind of rust....unless you want to sink $7k into it.

What rust you see is only half of what rust there is.

That is not just pretty bad that is Ugly bad! you can also see what looks like black greasy oil from leaks on the front cross member there too. that is the kind of thing I use to buy for winter beater if it runs good I'd give $2000 Canadian or $1570 US for it as long as I could not poke a screw driver thru the frame or floor boards somewhere.

Keep looking. Sadly that looks like a perpetual money pit.
