Nice set up! I am a big fan of the 1UP rack too!

 

TRD wheels, Kumho A/T 51s. Work really nicely both in snow and off-road.

 

And that is why I ordered the wheels in bronze. Unfortunately I got an email a few weeks later saying the bronze wouldn’t be in for months and they had one set of gunmetal left ready to ship. I bit the bullet, but thanks for reminding me I should have stuck with bronze

A little bit of rubbing on the front bumper but I have an SSO with high clearance sides on the way which will fix that. I have caster set to about 3 degrees up front which cleared the body mount and fender just fine. Still had a BMC done so I can clear 35’s when that time comes but isn’t necessary for 33’s. Thanks for the kind words!!

No, it rubs at full lock backing out on certain grades. Doing the DRT relocation next week to fix that though

Has anyone gone with a lighter weight wheel and tire setup and noticed any actual/tangible performance increase from their T4R after doing so? Increased drivability? MPG increase? Anything?

 

Noticing the chains in the pic. When do you chain up in your 4Runner? I have not purchased a set of chains for my 4Runner yet, as I have not felt the need for chains. Not trying to diss, Just curious

 

No problem. It was more for me to test them out. When I was up in Lake Arrowhead they got hit with a bunch of snow and we were required to have chains in our vehicles just in case. I put them on and gave them a spin just to test them out. There are certain conditions where you would need to use chains even with a 4WD and snow tires, but that was not the case in this photo. It was mostly me just testing them out.

 

I have the same wheels on my Tacoma. Curious if you have to do a CMC on a 4Runner to fit them? I am in negotiations on a 4Runner now as I am in need of a little more interior space. Nice rig!

 

I was rubbing on the body mount at full lock, left or right, at certain grades in reverse but it wasn't too bad. Did the BMC and now its good to go!

 

Replacements for this sad combo coming soon! Tires and TPS are in hand, wheels arrive tomorrow, then to find a shop to put em all together....

Upgraded tires. Same wheels.

Now running the LT285/70R17 Goodyear Ultra Terrain. Amazing tire so far! Does great in deep snow, packed snow, ice, and in the mud. Quiet on the highway, responsive, and I gained 1 mpg over the old Coopers. Love these tires! If they wear decent, then they will be the new gold standard of off-road tires for me.

Leaving in two weeks for a 3200-mile road trip to Arizona to run some desert trails and pick up a Harley I bought.

When I get back, I'll have around 5,000 miles on them and will do some tread depth measuring.

Interestingly, they do rub a tiny bit when backing to the right. They are listed as a true 33" tall while the Coopers were 32.91". Crazy how just a tiny bit of difference rubs.

I did an extensive snow performance review of them on my YT channel and have a thread on it in the Wheels/Tires section.

Just threw a set of 285/70R17 load range C KO2s on the factory TRDOR wheels with no spacers. 2" front and 1" rear Dobinson's suspension. No rubbing yet, but we will see what happens when we take it out on some trails. I removed the front mud flaps and did the front inner-fender liner mod/bumper trim before getting the tires.

 

Looks great. How do you like the ride with the Dobs?

 

So far so good. I went with 300 coils up front, and 599 rears with the comfort valving out back since we don't really load the 4r down. It feels a little more buttoned down, and a lot less brake dive. We will see how it does on trails, but I'm happy so far. The ride is still soft, and going with a 2" lift rather than a 2.5 or 3" means that I still have some down travel left on the shocks to soak up bumps that unload the suspension (like dropping a wheel into a pothole or coming off of a speed bump).

My goal was a little more clearance on trails and the ability to get some bigger AT tires without ruining the ride quality, and I'd say mission accomplished.

Yep, I’m here in Phoenix. I ordered the tires through Costco and had them installed at the Glendale Costco. In and out, no balance issues. Alignment is on Monday at Wulf’s.

Stock (265) Toyo Open Country AT3's? How do you like them so far?

That is the tire I'm leaning toward when my stock Nitto's need replacing in approximately three years (14,000 miles in nine months).

My son is a freshman at Montana State University in Bozeman and that is the tire we put on our 2013 Honda Pilot (smaller tire size) for him to have out there. He says the tires have performed incredibly well in the snow.
