Need to get a sanity check from the T4R communitah: anyone else here see that after wiping down your own windshield, you get light scratches that show up?

I do my own detailing and normally do a chef's kiss with my own work, but the windshield? As clear as it is, I tend to get these light scratches (typically visible under certain light angles / driving direction)

Using Chemical Guys streak free window cleaner and Chemical Guys microfiber window cloth.

Thanks for any input / takes fellas!

Yup Just noticed this last month on my 2020SR5 , the 4 runner windshields dont hold up well, they suffer from a lot of stone chips and now scratches too!

I think our trucks windshields suffer from a moderate level of Eczema, because they're super sensitive!

Scratches aside, I'm a fan of a lot of chemical guys products, but their "streak free" window cleaner is the streakiest stuff I've ever used

I agree with you 100% sir! My gawd...if it streaks anymore, they should rebrand it "Frank the Tank"

Who remembers cleaning windshield (especially on the interior side) with straight up newspaper? Was it just me?

That was the best stuff on earth. It needed more elbow grease to get it done, but man alive did everything get crystal clear!

I still occasionally consider subscribing to the print version of my local paper just for the windows.

Naw mang!!! Im not ribbing. If those kids were trying to clean your windshield with newspaper, it just means they knew what they were doing.
Chemical guys would patent it if they knew about it. :D

Sometimes when you have enough money for a car, but not much else, you spitshine that thing with your bare hands if you need to. Back in the day in the vecindario , washing a car was dawn dish soap, carnuba, a clean towel from inside the house, and a smooth stone to get that white lettering on the tires bright as new. That, and lotsa elbow grease! After half a day of cleaning…chef kiss as you say

@McSpazatron I'm going to test that technique on household windows...now if I can only find some SF Chronicles, SJ Mercury, or Oakland Tribune available for sale!

Avoid glossy print, though it’ll do in a pinch

also, no shame in using product to cut through heavy crud first. Dry newspaper for final passes

It does seem that the windshields on the latter vehicles tend to scratch easier than I remember from the past. Maybe something to do with Federal requirements (?) Don't know. What I have found works to get rid of the fine scratches is using auto glass polish with a small one-handed power buffer with a small 3.5" pad.

My neighbor gave me this old school window cleaner recipe. I purchased every brand of window cleaner and this stuff so far I found is the best. I put this in my own spray bottle and dry with microfiber towel. Works great for home windows and bathroom mirrors.

None. Bone Stock. EXCEPT: Brushguard, tow hitch, both welded to the frame. It's good to have friends and a fully equipped garage!
Me, I just use regular, off the shelf, squirt it outta the bottle, Windex. Newspaper for the "cloth", and it works great.

My lovely wife and I both smoke, and it cleans the inside of the windows, car and home, mirrors in the house, you name it. Never had a bit of trouble getting the "film" that smoke leaves off of anything.

    Have fun, all!
    Pat☺
