Rear suspension and axle looks like a LC 200 … I don’t like the grill , would have liked a Full floating axle .

Got a chance the other day to look at a side by side of two green Tundras. 2022 and 2021. I usually like new designs but must say I find the 2021 more visually appealing at this point. All the new trucks are starting to blend together visually and the "old" Tundra looked different. All trucks are square and blocky now. No doubt the new one is an upgrade though in most respects (potential first year blues notwithstanding).

I had high hopes for Toyota building a truck to compete with the big 3 as far as the 3/4 and 1 ton market but knew deep down they would not .
I’m a diehard Toyota guy but they have nothing to offer me in Tundra or Tacoma right now .
Tundra went the same way as the Tacoma in 2015 took away the 4.0 and gave it the highlander motor …LOL
Everything is going light weight and twin turbo small cubic inch eco friendly , light weight .
Not motivated to buy anything right now , I actually just traded a 2019 GMC 3500 diesel SRW in on my 2022 TRD Pro 4runner , was not using that truck and got 16k over what I paid for it back in 2019 … crazy what trucks are selling for .
I could not give 55K + for the new Tundra , I looked at it , I would rather the 2021 and under .

I drove tacomas for 25 years. I had several over the years. Got a 3rd gen and lasted two months. The engine and transmission combo was awful. That’s how I ended up in a 4runner.

    The raptor lights are lame.

I'm all for the turbo 6. And, the turbo 6 hybrid sounds even better!

I'm sure it will be a fantastic truck.

    What's a full floating axle?

It sounds like they went to a multi link like a 4Runner or a Jeep. I'm not sure what the down-side would be.

This has some cool features but I hate the "Toyota" and "TRD" slapped onto everything from the dash to steering wheel and grille lights. Looks like they teamed with Etsy for their parts.

They went coil spring rear axle , looks just like the LC200 rear setup which will excite the Land Cruiser guys , not sure if they even boxed the frame , which the Crewmax needed on the 2021 and under had a good amount of flex , I had 4 tundras in the past few years and was one of my complaints .
In my state the tundras are a 3/4 ton registration and could not imagine putting 1750 lbs in the back of my old tundra .
I have to pick up another truck for the summer , basicly hauling a ton at a time of rocks and dirt , my summer project putting 56 pallets of EP Henry pavers in my back yard I bought last year .
I could not even put 1 pallet of pavers in the back on a tundra , 1 pallet weighs 3200 lbs and is only 40” x 40” 30” high would kill a tundra .
I was looking at a Toyota Dyna mini truck I found on line .

I actually have a dump trailer , just a lot easier with a dump insert in a SRW truck . Not all vehicles are created equally .
I just thought Toyota could have done a better job , I knew they were going to go the direction of the 3rd gen Tacoma .
I really did and still thinking about a 2021 Tundra just to get V8 , out of the Big 3 , ford with the Godzilla 7.3 would be a top choice but having the fords at my work they all look like golf balls , the aluminum bodies are like a beer can .
Anyone know if the new Tundra has swapped over to aluminum body panels ?

I haven't heard or read anything about aluminum body panels.

It sounds like it should be just as heavy duty as the previous Tundra. It seems pretty tough for a half ton.

But, if you really need an HD pickup, you need to buy something else. The Tundra has never been advertised as a heavy duty truck, though.

If a decently equipped non-hybrid Platinum is $64K, this Capstone will be $70K without the discounts / incentives of the top of the line domestics. Yikes.

Very detailed video, some good some bad things on the new truck. Hex bolts for the front hubs instead of bolts will probably lead to issues when they need to be changed. Hopefully the front diff actuator being inside the unit now won't lead to issues, be a pita to repair if so.

The local annual auto show had a bunch of new Tundras on display and I spent about an hour and sat in them all and poked at everything. Would still have to drive one but the first impression was.....not great. Which is disappointing because I was thinking of replacing my current T4R 4th gen with a 3rd gen Tundra when the time came. The Tundra just felt smaller, cheaper, with worse windows and interior finishes vs the other trucks. And I really really dislike the Tundra's rear end. The front is ok but that rear end is something else, even in person.

I've driven a few of the 2nd gen Tundras and they didn't speak to me either. I feel let down but I'd still like to drive one to be sure. They did have a TRD Pro and a Capstone there but you couldn't sit in them or open them up at all which was a bummer.

I hate to say it but my favorite truck at the show this year was a '22 Ranger Tremor. Neat little truck and felt much more comfortable to sit in vs the Taco.

Not good at all. Seems like a supplier issue though. I wonder if this is the same turbo used on the overseas LC and on the LX. Haven't heard any issue with the LC turbo as of yet. I wonder if they are using a different supplier for those?

Looks like LS500 have reported same issues.

I guess with Turbo engines its not a matter of "will turbo get issues" it's more like "when will the turbo have issues".

You add complexity then you increase the chance for failures.

I took the brother in law up to my local dealer to see one in person , I got a second look at one , I still never buy the first year of anything .
Brother is coming out of a lease on GM and will make money on the lease buy out so he has to buy or lease something , lease prices are up .
I’m still not sold on the new Tundra , even with high gas prices I would buy a 2021 and under , even with the high gas prices if I really needed another truck .
I think if the fuel prices continue car and truck market will catch up because people will not buy new , average new little car payment is 600 bucks … a nice new tundra for someone not putting much down is 800+ then they still have to feed it $$$$ = slow sales .

I've been thinking about a new Limited or Platinum. Will probably wait to see if the rod bearing / wastegate issue gets fixed.

Idk the exact %, but there is a thread on the Tundra forums of quite a few trucks sitting at dealerships with documented engine failures. A lot of 2022s with some 2023s. Its speculated that the blocks weren't thoroughly cleaned and / or a bad batch of bearings.
