Welcome, you're going to get a spectrums of answers as every individual has a different threshold for what's "too much" rust.

Personal opinion, that looks like nothing but surface rust on a six year old vehicle.

Yeah, just a little bit of surface rust; not bad at all.

Just because I live in the rust belt… if it were mine, I’d still want to clean it up and treat it. I’d do this by hitting the areas with a wire brush; then spray it with a rust converter; then after it’s had time to do it’s thing, top coat it with some rust oleum satin black and satin clear. Repeat after each winter (if you live in an area that sees snow and road salt).

    Doesn't look bad to me for a 2016. I wouldn't be concerned.

Why in the world are there all those holes in the frame? Seriously… Does anyone know? And they’re so random.

Some are mounting points for optional equipment; some are strategic to allow moisture to escape; and it’s possible some are just from the manufacturing process.

thank you very helpful, but should this be done at a body shop for better undercarriage access?

Get your old rags on, grab a wire brush and some elbow grease and go to town. Looks good from here!

Great. So its a quick sand 2016 TRD pro with 52K mi for $45K, mostly what I hear for the forum is the rust is normal surface, so all in all, good to buy and enjoy for 10Y? The only thing is there were 2 owners, no car issues, accidents either. Should I be concerned?

I know prices are out of control these days, but $45k for a 6-year old 4R, even a rarish color Pro, seems way too much IMO. For that price, I'd expect a 1-owner, pristine vehicle with -0- rust...your choice, however.

I just can't stomach how dealers are pricing vehicles for more than they cost new.

45k? Maaaan that is ridiculous. I have a 2016 Quicksand Pro with a few more miles than that. I paid 45k with tax title and licensing, brand new six years ago. Mine is far from stock, I'll totally take 45k for it :D

I can take some pictures of my under carriage if you'd like to for comparison.

It’s a bit unnerving because it’s a beautiful vehicle but too expensive

The rust is minor and normal, but the price is insane. Quicksand is arguably the best Pro color, but damn. Personally I'd buy a new TRD OR and have it wrapped for approx the same money.

If you end up with one with a similar frame, it's not bad. If you like to DIY, a few hours underneath with a wire brush on a drill to clean it up, then some rust converter to treat it. I did this on my 2013 the summer I got it (2019). I used Rust Bullet to cover the rusty areas after sanding, then a topcoat of oil based satin black Rust-Oleum, then had the whole thing fluid filmed. I've been lazy with the FF, I def should have had it done this winter, but it's held up well. I spot treat it here and there. Two years later, the frame still looks great.

So I decided to take everything in consideration and landed a Lunar Rock TRD pro. I didn’t realize how big, rugged, and beautiful it was and also it changes color with different lighting.

Anyone own and would like to share their experience on owning one?

Thanks everyone for the forum discussions!
