I’m wondering how good these electric vehicles heat. Seems it takes a lot of energy to run heat and must put a considerable drain on the battery charge?

Back in 2000, I remember going to a parent/teacher conference when my Son was in 6th grade. Teacher was talking about home work and limiting nightly TV for your child so that home work could be focused on.
One of the parents commented that he didn't allow TV in his home at all. I remember thinking that it was an extreme measure to not allow ANY television.
Now? I think he was the smartest parent in the whole county. His children were probably reading at a college level by the time they were in 7th grade.
I myself haven't watched TV or any streaming since spring of 2020. YT car or racing videos is pretty much it. Don't miss it one bit.
There is a reason they call it "programming".
Look up Edward Bernays (Freud's Nephew) known as the King of Propaganda and you'll understand how society got to the place it's in now. Bernays Nephew is Marc Randolph, co founder of Netflix.
If you have young children or grand children? Stay vigilant......the world is changing faster than we can even imagine.

I've wondered about Hurricane Evac in 90+ degree heat. Hard enough to get petroleum in those situations as well. I know range is getting better all the time, and I think regular commutes will be an EV standard in the near future, but there needs to be considerations for severe weather and possible grids going down.
An entire states coastal community getting evacuated puts insane pressure on the infrastructure of a good portion of the SE.

Getting stranded in a snow storm and how long your remaining battery life holds up also depends on ambient temps. Being stuck in the northern mid west the temps can get below zero for 10 to 12 hrs at a time. Even ICE vehicles have a hard time keeping up with those temps.

But EV commutes in certain city centers and urban settings, along with mass transit, are going to be a standard.

I think social media affects adults worse than kids, in many cases. People grew up knowing that the news is reliable and true. Then the algorithms keep showing them what they want to believe and they assume all of it is true.

I mean, if you ask anyone, they intellectually know there's a lot of unreliable news on the internet, but then they read what they want to hear and that just goes out the window. And when what they want to hear is misinformation and hatred, we have a real problem on our hands.

The kids are growing up with it, knowing that most of what they read on the internet is bullshit.

We just purchased a 2022 Polestar 2 for my wife. Our first electric. It is crazy how quick it is and how much fun it is to drive. She rarely ever drives more than 100 miles a week and we charge at home so so far charging has not been an issue. I wouldn't give my 4R up for an electric but it is fun to have one in the family to take out every now and then.

One can only hope they know most of it is BS. Seems like today we have those that get swallowed up by social media (in my era it was TV) or they live a rather shallow life relying only on what mommy & daddy taught them (child/parent/follower) instead of getting into "adult" mode thinking beyond just what they grew up with. Okay, I'm stepping off the pulpit before someone knocks me off... :llama:

So a while back I said I would never ever get a hybrid or EV or die trying not to have one!
Funny story, sold the runner due to selling for a huge profit.
I ended up in a hybrid 150. Six months in I’ll never go back to full ice. Average is 23 mpg but in ideal conditions like a side roads under 50 I’ve netted 30mpg.
Also like the backup gen for the house and of course haven’t lost power since!
Anyway to the diehard ice guys. I was one, chit changes & glad I tried now

I think that will be the case for a lot of people. Especially typical truck guys. But ultimately I think the market will shift due to the market, not due to government mandates.

The new Hyundai Ioniq and Kia EV look nice... and affordable than Teslas. I can also see the benefits of going electric, but I just love the 4R too much.

Sure, I just saw a Kia engulfed in flames a few months ago.

As others have said, migrating to EV as a result of free market choices is a good thing. Getting there by way of mandates and government pressures is a bad thing.

It will be fun to see what Toyota comes up with in the next few years.

There are a lot of good points here. Doug Demuro pointed out while testing the Roadster that the quality problems are shockingly bad, even for a vehicle that costs hundreds of thousands of dollars. Also the fact you need to go through the touchscreen for everything just seems mindlessly pedantic and would get old very quickly. I've also heard a lot of complaints about the door handles, I think the TFL guys in particular had a problem with one of their Teslas.

I am on the waitlist for the Cybertruck, I am far enough down the waitlist where I will be able to make an informed decision by the time they tell me I need to make up my mind. I do like the idea of the Cybertruck, but feel like Toyota has found Tesla's soft underbelly with the Prime technology. That really seems like the best of both worlds at least until better battery technology is developed.
