Is $22,999 a good deal for a clean '07 4Runner Limited V6 4wd with 83k miles? Clean leather interior, little to no cosmetic issues, and it has aftermarket front and rear bumpers. Make of the bumpers isn't listed.

Compared to prices of older and newer 4Runners in my area, the price almost seems too good to be true which leads me to believe that it is, and there is some kind of issue that isn't represented in the sales listing. It is a dealership, not private party though. It looks lifted but again no mention of a lift in the listing. I've pasted the "Vehicle Options" below if it helps, kind of long and some of the things mentioned aren't worth mentioning. Like the fact that it has a trip computer, lol. Also will attach a picture in case anyone wants to let me know I'm dumb and that it isn't lifted.

    Thanks for your opinions!

I posted here because I'm honestly confused.. there are older 4Runners both same and earlier generations with double as many miles going for similar prices but 20k seems insane for a 4runner. KBB is also showing between 12 and 16k for an 07 but all 4runners just seem insanely priced in my area. (PNW)

I think that over $20k is too high. That looks like a really nice one so I will go high on the price. $18k which is the higher than KBB prices.

It isn’t the worst for today’s market conditions, but once supply chain issues resolve it’ll be an instant loss.

Thanks for the replies guys! I'll hold off until the market adjusts or someone posts the right one for the right price.

Honestly, the undercarriage looks really good from the front, so if the rest of the vehicle is that well taken care of and there are no issues, it's probably right inline with today's car prices. Is it high, yes, but most '07s I've seen are beat up pretty good. If there's no rust underneath and it's mechanically sound, IDK, probably not too far off in price, but that's just me.

Also for your awareness OP more pictures would help in general, but from those angles it does indeed look lifted, maybe Bilstein or OME shocks. Like the above poster says the frame looks really good from the front. If it all looks like that thats a damn good find. And that hardware looks like a C4 Fab front and rear bumper. Maybe $4500 worth right there... Not to mention the sliders. On average another $1k.
Food for thought in 2019 I bought my 2005 Limited V8 w/ 92k miles for $18k. Was it overpriced? Yea probably. But did I find literally exactly what I wanted so it was worth it? Also yes.

If its what you want then no one else's opinion matters. If its not then thats a $23k gamble

Thanks for your input! It is really just about what I would have done to a stock 4runner anyway. I realize that if I end up getting this one it'll likely last me at least 20 years, probably closer to 30 as I don't have the need to drive much and put usually less than 10k a year on my vehicles.

There are no good deals on used cars right now.

I would actually say that the used car market is insane.

If you absolutely positively want this truck and will have zero buyers remorse, then get it, but I promise you once new ones start showing up at dealerships again, the value of this thing will hit rock bottom.

I got my 2013 SR5 4wd with 144K on the odo for 18K, flew to Maryland to go get it. Anything cheaper has 220K miles on it. I was fine simply because I work from home and I use a highlander for driving, the rig literally comes out once a week to keep the fluids going, otherwise its for overlanding only.

At 22K for a V6 id say it is overpriced, I would for sure push for 17K or lower with the mods it has. Pretty sure tho they won't budge..... If you do go after it let us know how it works out.

Wow, I'd be happy to get that for my 2013.

It looks pretty clean, but over 20k for V6 4th gen just sounds insane.

It really does. The value proposition is very poor at this price. It’s not like prices are higher because everyone is more money.

About 3 or 4 years ago, I walked away from a 2011 sr5 with over 159k miles on it. They wanted almost 18k for it. I just could not stomach letting go of that much cash for a well-used vehicle. To me, 18k is the same amount of money then, as it is now.

Also, it’s good to keep in mind that the aftermarket stuff has zero value to most buyers. If you wanted to, you could try breakin their balls by asking for if the stock parts. Then itemize a list with the amount of money requires to get the vehicle back to stock. Then negotiate from there.

But if enough people are salivating for cars are willing to let go of that much cash for one, negotiating wont work

Yeah, it's crazy. There's really nothing special about that vehicle. You could go buy something similar of the same year for 10K and avoid the Toyota tax.

And that's crazy even a few years ago somebody was trying to get 18K for one with 150k+ on it. I don't want to say these are overrated, but I don't think they're worth the current pricing insanity. Next month makes three years that I've had my Trail Edition, and I paid a little less for it than this 07 is going for.

I find it puzzling really, I'm used to buying used vehicles, paying them off, and by that point then aren't really worth much. It almost feels strange, having paid my 4Runner off and it's still worth close to what I paid for it. Kind of actually makes me a little uncomfortable to own something that valuable, haha. For most of the past year, I've been in this constant "maybe I should sell it while it's still worth a lot" mindset, while cruising Marketplace looking at $5,000 beaters.

I should list it for some stupid high price and see if I get any bites.

I've decided to go see the '07 this weekend to try to talk the guy down to KBB values in person. I've made peace with the fact that being a dealership they probably won't get close to KBB so I'll be going home empty handed, but that's fine. I picked a hell of a time to look into buying a 4runner.. I'm seeing 3rd gens listed at $20k+ with well over 100k miles. Are people seriously buying these at that price point? Nothing against 3rd gens or older, I rather like the 3rd gens.. but I can barely wrap my head around paying $22k for an '07

You might be pleasantly surprised, maybe someone like myself will rush into a purchase without asking strangers on the internet if it's a good deal :spending:

Agree, I love the 4runner. Coolest vehicle Ive ever owned. Period. But no way I would pay the inflated prices. At that point, you have so much money in it that it will be sure to disappoint. Because as cool as they are, they are not worth the huge markups on new, or inflated used prices. Part of the appeal is that I got a new one for sub 40k. Same price as our 18 highlander.

Im dont want to sell mine though. I dont want a different vehicle, so It’s like real estate. Unless you can actually sell and replace with a real profit left over, it’s just a lateral move. And with the work Ive put into it so far, the profit would have to be more than 4 or 5 grand to really make it worth it.

I think it helped me to go look at overpriced used 4runners when I first got interested 3 or 4 years ago. When you see them and can touch them, see the ratty wear on the drivers seat, rust, calculating out the maintainance due, etc, you feel better about just shaking your head and walking away. That’s what convinced me to be patient, start saving and go for a new 4runner. Even now they can be had at msrp if you are patient.

I'm seeing that MSRP for a 2021 is ~34k? Which makes this '07 for nearly $23k seem outlandish. I have great credit, I might as well finance a new one if I can actually find one at msrp. I just checked inventory of my local toyota dealer and big surprise, every 4runner in inventory is listed above $40k lol

Now that I'm thinking about this again, can I get some opinions about going for a V8 over the V6? I'm guessing the V6 will last longer? There doesn't seem to be a HUGE difference in power. Or MPG. I've also read that the V8's are prone to cracking exhaust manifolds, but that seems about the extent of the "big" problems. Is there any reason to go for the V8 above the V6?

If you drive a lot, you’ll hate the price of replacing the timing belts on the V8. Ive heard the same as you about the exhaust manifolds. Otherwise it seems they are sweet engines.

34k msrp for a new 4runner? Is that for a 2wd? Those are 2runners if you ask me. Unless you need a wagon form factor, a nice crown vic with cop shocks would be just as nice lol ;)

My 21 OR was around 42k msrp, and I got it at a “no negotiating” dealer for about 38k plus TTL. Edit: this was right before the supply chain/chip shortage crap hit. Now I think they sell for msrp at the same dealer, when they are available.

Stock numbers for a 4th gen V6 vs V8 is something like 236hp and 266ftlb versus 260hp and 320ftlb (the later years got a torque bump)... Not for nothing, if you start modding your rig and putting toys/equipment on it that extra torque feels REALLYYY good. My first 4runner was a 4th gen V6 and now with my V8, it is a big ass difference.
V6 has a timing chain you shouldnt ever need to swap. V8s timing belt is no more an issue than any other belt driven engine, just keep an eye on it. The exhaust manifold issue is annoying but fixes exist. The 2UZ is absolutely touted as one of the best engines Toyota ever made, yes above the 1GR, on the same level as the 1HD and 22RE for indestructable-ness.

Clearly you can see Im biased here, but it isnt exactly unfounded:cheers:

With what used 4Runners cost, I'd be awfully tempted to look for an Xterra instead.

A lot of them have disappeared, I don’t know if it’s because they were cheaper people drove the shit out of them or if they just fell apart.

I would try to find a bare bones SR5 at MSRP for that kind of money.

sure you will be spending more but you will be first owner, know all the history, pre treat for rust prevention and you’re starting off new with a warranty.

We only go around once and you won’t find yourself at age 80 someday saying damn I wish would have saved that money.

I've been checking the local Toyota dealerships every night! Everything is just so expensive right now. I'm seeing used 4runners at nearly 50k miles for sale for close to $50k. On the local dealership site. Not a good time to be in the market I guess. Estimations for the used car market to calm down are between October of 2022 and October of 2023. Hopefully closer to 2022.. I want a damn 4runner!

Well I lost my 4Runner to my daughter, I am currently in Japan and her Tacoma steering rack went out and she doesn’t want anyone to replace it but me so she decided to take my 4Runner instead. My wife was no resistance……guess I will be repairing the Tacoma and keeping it.

Are you willing to travel out east to get one? My sense is from reading these forums that the further away from the west coast you get the better chance of finding one at MSRP.

Try doing a nation wide search on Car gurus or cars.com as example and then call. I would not email. Try looking in Michigan and OH. I am in MI and I can tell you 4Rs are not as popular here since the Detroit three are here. They still sell but I see more Jeeps and Broncos Vs 4Rs

I did a quick search and see a lot of SR5s in the low 40s. Here is an example. This place usually had inventory in Columbus OH. Obviously call them to ensure pricing. Make a road trip out of it.

Nothing worthwhile in life comes easy including finding a fair deal on a 4R

By the way this dealer in OH will sell to out of state as of last year for a purchase not a lease. They were willing to sell one to me in MI and it’s four hours from me. Apparently they are OH largest Toyota Dealer. Everytime I got on the phone with them they were hustling to work a deal but never had exactly what I wanted.

One other thought is that if you are considering new I think you will see an MSRP adjustment upward if this market continues later this year. This will not just be on 4Rs but any popular vehicle.

Even before this chip shortage etal I watched the MSRP go up on mine twice from the time I ordered to delivery. Granted it was not huge but a few hundred here and there add up.

I think this is why the SR5s are in low 40s vs under $40k like they were last year. People get into another price bracket in their head when you go from 39 then to 40.

If you are shopping for a 4runner 4 wheel drive ? it is tough to find anything new for less than $40K today.

If some of you think $23k is insane for a 2007, check out what the dealer wants for this 2000 4R. SmartSelect_20220124-180701_Samsung Internet.jpg
