I'm considering buying an 05 4Runner, 150K miles, 6 cyl, AT, 4WD. I'm new to 4Runners, but am familiar with working on cars and trucks. I believe the 05 6 cyl is a chain engine. Can someone verify that? Also, I'd appreciate any/all comments on what else I should be looking at when evaluating this vehicle. What are the weak and strong points?

Thanks in advance for any/all replies.

the 4.0 V6 has a timing chain. Main thing is to check out the frame for rust.

drive the truck first for 30 miles and see if dashboard lights pops out. turn off the stereo & listen for unusual engine noise or front axles noise.

You can download the toyota app onto your phone and input the vin number. If they have kept up on maintenance it should all be there. Any trips to the dealer, crash repair and smog updates should all be there from the time the 4runner was built. General oil changes and whatnot may not be as some places dont report all that. Especially if the owner did a lot of their own maintenance.
