What is stopping Toyota from

    Huh? All GX's are full time 4wd with a center locker. Rear lockers aren't optional, but can be added.

    Yeah, V8's are awesome. But, we can sit around and complain, or we can accept that it's not happening.

    Yes, turbos CAN be problematic. But, this is Toyota. And some of the most bulletproof motors ever produced have been turbocharged.

    I'm sorry...it's been a while since my research prior to buying my 5th gen. Cannot remember where I read or heard to stay away from the V8.
    I DO remember however, the service manager at my Toyota dealership telling me that the V8 was not nearly as dependable as the V6, not to mention even worse gas mileage. I think he said servicing was more difficult as well.

    The 2uz (4.7) was a fantastic engine. The issue your service manager was referring to was probably the timing belt maintenance. As long as this was kept up on, they were pretty bulletproof, as far as I know. Mine ran like new at 257K miles.

    Oh well...nothing gained, nothing lost.
    If I could do it again though, I would still choose the V6.

    Close. It's the same setup as the Limited.
