I found a 2004 4.7 4wd 4Runner with 154k miles and it originally was a PA car so it has a little “flavor”. The carfax looks really good (serviced at a Toyota dealership every 5k and 2 owners with no accidents), but it does have some rust. Is this too much rust?

what rust? Looks minor to me but why is the rear end and back half of the frame so black compared to everything else?

Something looks like it was done there.

I agree. You definitely need to poke with a screw driver at the painted parts. They could have been trying to hide severe rust. Over all it looks real good and clean for the age and it being a Penn. Vehicle.

This looks fine to me too. Except it is getting to the point that rust is going to be an issue. But it looks fine for now.

In my area, that would be considered nearly rust-free! It should be fine - but as others have said, get out the ice-pick and poke areas that look bad or have been painted over. I suspect the paint was just to make the everything look good from the fender wells.

If you like the vehicle and the price is right, I wouldn't let the rust hold me back, but I would definitely treat it to a wire brush and oil undercoating as soon as you get it. It will go a long way to slowing down any active rust. Then touch up annually.

Better buy it before I do!

Looks great. My 13 has mild rust and looks worse.

i would go underneath..or put it up on the rack, and eye ball it..poke around...see if anything crumbles...or pokes thru...if not, give it a good cleaning, prime and paint as needed...and re check it on a yearly basis
