Used to be a Subaru guy but just snagged a used 2020 4runner with two rows and took our dogs out last weekend. We threw some blankets down but shedding and mud made a mess. Did some research for the best 4runner cargo liner and see a couple options/price points out there. What are your thoughts?

First, what are your thoughts on the 4runner? Second, also have a lab that sheds a lot and have owned many different cargo mats and liners over the year. My first recommendation is to go custom and get something that lines both the cargo area and back of the second row. With that said, I've tried numerous companies and my favorite is the Ruff Rug 4Runner cargo liner: https://ruffrug.com/products/toyota-4runner-cargo-liner

100% custom made and really nice waterproof material (with cutouts) and essentially line everything along the floor, back of the seats, and add ons with the sides and bumper.

Pricing is excellent for a custom product. Also, they pre-make their cargo liners so there's no waiting 3-4 weeks like others out there (2-3 week wait time is was too long for my trip). Mine shipped the next day.

My dogs shed a lot (still haha) but the Ruff Rugs cargo liner just wipes right down with a damp cloth.

Second the Ruff Rugs recommendation. Dogs go everywhere with me and tried everything out there (canvasbac, hamilton, and blankets). Their product is perfect for off roading and hunting with my dogs. Thought customer service was excellent. Material is really nice. It's made with a vinyl on top/cloth underneath material and the guy there said they tried to make it in leather a few years ago but was just too expensive. Vinyl looks like leather but tougher. Pricing is more expensive than a blanket/one size fits all but the clean up saved me literally hundreds of hours.

Reviving old thread. Thinking of buying ruffrug over canvasback for material that allows more traction for pets. Anyone have long term updates on quality and durability?

We have canvasbacks. Had them since September. Zero issues.

My dog has peed back there with zero seeping and no lingering smell. We have also loaded concrete and cinder blocks on them.

Easier to vacuum out the dog hair and other debris from the canvasbacks over the carpet nap.

We did buy the bumper cover extension but have only used it once. My dog is able to clear the bumper, so it is not currently useful to us.

    I also couldn’t pass up a USA-based small
Businesses. They were worth the 2 week wait.

Another vote of confidence in canvasback. Put it on immediately after buying truck and works great dogs in back.

Is the canvasback not slippery for dogs? That's why I was leaning ruffrugs - they are vinyl.

I have the OEM cargo tray but it's hard plastic and slippery. I re-purposed some kind of back seat doggie hammock my wife bought years ago because it fits back there pretty well and can be taken out and washed. But it doesn't go with the seats if I only fold down one side.

I don't find canvasback slippery and haven't had problem with the dogs. I have the same OEM cargo tray. Yes that's tough for dogs to grip nails on.

+1 on Canvasback. They work well.

Another vote for Canvasback, simple to install and really makes it easy to clean up after my husky has been in the back. She is fine with it not much slipping around that I have seen. Really like how it fit's and well worth the 2 weeks wait to get it.

I also have the OEM tray. My dog doesn’t slide around back there. He can stand and sit without issue. I have never seen him slide around from a rested position. I have a Lab/beagle mix. He is about 50lbs.

Of course if standing he will lose his balance when we hit a corner hard or go over some fun bumps on a trail.
He is a big ball of meat and bones standing on 4 sticks for legs.

I would assume the vinyl would retain extra heat due to being non porous vs. the canvasbacks being fabric with a vinyl liner. I would also think the vinyl would be less forgiving to mail marks and scratches.

All good info, thanks everyone! I have a beagle who doesn't like car rides so it's usually poop and puke - looking for better protection and cleanup. Sounds like canvasback is a winner

Canvasback. I have the rear side/wheel well, rear seat back, front seat back and tailgate cover. The crappy plastic panels in the 4Runner need protection.

It seems both Canvasback and Ruffrug are the best options?

    Working on it
I have one from Bullydog that I like.
I can’t compare it to Canvasback or Ruffrug, but it works for me.
