    Have a stock 2020 4Runner (Canadian TRD Off-road) w/ KDSS

I've tried to follow tire guides and do my research and whatnot, but I'm a bit confused if a set of wildpeak AT3w in 275/70/17 will rub? Seemingly these are a bit thicker tread than "normal", and I'm seeing on tiresize.com that these would be 32.4"?

Is there a specific measurement where rub will happen?

You’re probably fine. If you’re worried about rubbing then lift it or stay with stock size. If you’re going to stuff as big of a tire as you can without accommodating it then you’ll rub at some point.

I've never in my life changed from the tires that came on my car :)

Is there enough of a difference between 265/70/17 vs 275/70/17 that I should even be considering this? Especially since I'm not going MUCH bigger and dealing with the potential changes? I imagine there IS still benefit of the (seemingly?) small upgrade... Or should I just forget about it and swap out to another set of 265s and call it a day?

It’ll be heavier, especially depending on what ply rating you get. You’ll be jumping about maybe 3/4”, so you shouldn’t have issues. The tire upgrade itself is 100% worth it, and the jump in size the will put slightly more tread on the ground. Just be aware that you may potentially rub, although unlikely.

Yeah, that was my primary source of info which indicates the 275s won't rub... then people say it does. :(

I have the Falken Wildpeaks 265/70/17 (stock tire size) and they rub in H4 or L4, not in H2. I have a 2021 Venture edition.

Where do they rub? Have you ever had your alignment checked? I don't see how a 265/70 would rub unless your alignment is out of spec.

It's a brand new car (2k miles) 1000 of which were the drive back home. Alignment is fine I assume though I have been off-roading. It rubs at the back end of the front wheel wells. The plastic there for the mudflap is maybe slightly warped forward somehow. I can bend it back or heat it up and remold it but it's definitely rubbing only in H4 (and I assume L4). All good in H2---tested and verified. It's definitely a problem---not sure what I'll do. I have 30 days on the Falkens so they may be going back----maybe better luck in KO2s. Not sure. I will update.

I'll bet your caster is below spec on both sides. It's actually far more common than most people realize to have a new vehicle that wasn't aligned properly at the factory. I once test drove a brand new F-150 with 4 miles on the odometer that pulled to the right badly. It was unbelievable how it left the factory in that condition.

When I got mine aligned after the lift was installed, my left side caster was 2.6 degrees which is where I had a small amount of rubbing on the left rear mudflap (and that was with 33" tires). Right side caster was at 3.0 degrees, with no rubbing at all on the right side.

Even if you got the LT version, your tires are only 31.9". They shouldn't rub.

@milesc3 rubs because he has the pro wheels on his venture with a lower offset.

@kaitlyn2004 you shouldn't rub with your stock OR wheels and 275's. If you do, it's easily fixed by an alignment.

i plan on upgrading from stock to 275s and from what I’ve read, they don’t rub - or at least from the people that have posted. That’s what peaked my interest - all the 275s I’ve seen with no modifications needed. With that said, I’m far from and expert though plan on upgrading within the month (hopefully).

So what is my fix? Spacers? Heat up and remold the flaps where they rub?

Tire shop and Toyota dealer both stumped. No reason it should rub at all and rubbing in H4 and not rubbing in H2 is a head scratcher. Appt in a week with Toyota techs to take a closer look.

Yeah the H2/H4 thing is really weird. Haven't heard of that.

However, I've heard of plenty of people rubbing with stock sized A/T tires on Venture's.

It's because the wheel offset with the PRO wheels is lower. When they put these on PRO's they do some trimming of the plastic fender flare in front of your tire and move the plastic fender liner up slightly. But they don't do this to the Venture with the same wheels for some reason.

The fix is what's called the fender liner mod (what I described above) and a proper alignment with your caster pushed forward to roughly +3.5 degrees. That's still within alignment specs but it's at the higher end of spec.

Have you had an alignment yet? If so, do you have the caster specs?

I just upgraded from stock to 275/70R17 on my stock '17 TRD ORP. No rubbing nor any other issues thus far.

Considering doing the same on my stock 2018 TRD ORP, how do you like them?

Highly reccomend. After 5 months, I cannot find one thing that I dislike about them. Everything else is still stock at this time as well on my '17. :)

Glad to hear! So I guess they haven't rubbed at all? Any noticeable drop in MPG's? The only thing I'm not psyched about is the weight. Any pics you could share? I'd love to see how they look on a stock setup.

No rubbing at all! The weight took me a few weeks to get comfortable with, but the difference between stock tires is night and day for me. Absolutely worth a little trade off that I don't even notice anymore. As for mpg, I generally drive a whopping 5 miles a day in the city, so I don't notice much of a difference from before. I havent been on a long enough trip yet to accurately gage the avg mpg. Overall, I have zero regrets and am stoked to actually get outside the city in the next few months. Here's a pic, not the best angle, but you get the idea 20211208_173752.jpg

That tire looks good. I think Wildpeaks are on the bigger side than the 275 KO2 I had. Mine was Load E and my wife hated it on road trips. It's a good thing you got load c.

Thanks for the pic! Looks like they fill out the wheel wells much better than the stock tires!

Ventures come stock with Pro wheels, but no fender liner mod from the port like the Pro's do.

With the lower offset on the Pro wheels, a Venture is more likely to rub with an increase in tire size when compared to a Pro.

    Thanks for the info.

I have seen Ventures online, but not in person. Might be the rarest 5 Gen eh?

It didn't last very long as a trim level.

    Was it one year? Two?

They no longer offer them as far as I know.
