    My 285's are on 38 Psi. I tried higher & lower Psi. With my Bfg KO 2's 285/70/17 C rated 38 Psi is the sweet spot - The maximum indicated on the tire is 60 Psi.

    Which Viair?

    I have a Viair 300P and won't be selling it for an ARB. No problem with 295's. And, if I get bigger tires, I'll get a bigger Viair. ;)

    I actually know a bunch of guys using the 88P and happy with it. It takes a bit longer, but it gets the job done.

    I've used a similar product for remote control of my strobe traffic LEDs - they work great, easy to connect and inexpensive.

    Got a Viair 300p. But Im having trouble getting the hose to connect to the unit. Specifically, I pull back on the hood, slip the connector over the stud, but the hood won't snap back to grab or connect to the stud. Is there a trick to this? My normal 1/4" connector connects fine. The only difference between it and the Viair connector is that mine has a ridge inside the connector and the Viair one is smooth inside.

    Thanks, but this is the first time that I've tried to use it. Since I cant get it to work, Im going to return the unit. I was really just wondering if there was some unusual way of connecting the female end to the male stud. I pull the collar back on the female end, slide it over, and the collar won't snap back into position to lick it into place on the stud.

    I ordered one of these the other day. The carry bag is a POS, I have a Pelican case that his puppy fits in along with hose and some tools. I plan on modding the hose connector. It does sound pretty strong when I did a DOA test.

    Yeah, the bag won't last long at all. I was going to look for a toolbox that would fit it.

    Turns out this will fit under the hood, too. Youtuber "Oxfoot" did a video showing his mounted under the hood of a 5th gen.

    We have the 88p here for the CJ2a, but I dunno, it takes forever to go from 20psi to 35psi on the stock 4R tires. Definitely a 15-20 minute task after a trip offroad. Do that once a week and it gets old. It's fine for occasional use.

    It really depends on each person's patience. I've used it to air up multiple days during multi week trips and it was fine. Good break and reset before hitting pavement again.

    Also, if you're with others, it's going to take at least 10-15 minutes for everyone else anyway. I use a CO2 tank on my Tacoma which is super fast but still have to wait for everyone else lol

    I have zero patience. It's just me, it's usually dark, cold and I'm tired. The extra time standing there is sometimes the difference between airing up and driving home as is. The extra money and size of the box is worth it to me. The 88P is fine with the small tires on the CJ2a, and the size is perfect for the total lack of inside space (with no top, it's not exactly an interior).

    I have the Viair 300p and like it. I air down / up for my almost weekly off road trips.

    Off roading with a diverse group of vehicles with folks using all sort of air compressors. I keep an eye on what folks are using.

    Avoid - Iron Man Air compressors. I have 2 friends with these huge honking things and they are SLOW!!!
    I can air up 4 tires from 20PSI to 40PSI with my Viair 300P in the time it takes them to do 1 tire!

    Avoid cheapie air compressors that connect via the cigarette lighter. I can air up my 4 tires and air up my buddy's other 3 tires in the time it takes him to fill 1 tire. His has an auto shutoff when his selected pressure is reached.

    Viair 300P vs 400P both have benefits and negatives. With the 300P you have to shut it off to get the most accurate tire gauge reading. I find with my 300P running the gauge is about 5PSI off.

    With the 400P you have to sit there and hold the handle. Sure a rubber band might help this process.

    Friend of mine has this monster truck 4Runner w/ IIRC 38 inch tires, uses a 300P just fine. Huge tires get run on pavement at lower pressures than small tires.

    Sidenote (slightly OT): What about deflators? I'm still, after all these years, just pressing the stupid needle on the valve to deflate. You know the drill, deflate, check pressure, deflate, check, deflate, check.....

    Recommendations for a better way?

    I bought a BLACK AND DECKER air compressor powered with the 120Vac. purchased it in 1990 at Kmart . cost was 50 bucks .. still working ... the air compressor powers up in the 4runner. pressure is about 120 psi ..MAX..
    did not manufacture a china mess.. metal compressor is solid strong .. plastic on the compressor is solid .. strong ..

    I got an elchepo 88p and it takes 1:45 to get my 285 from 18 to 33. Gets hot but if used the crap out of it for 55 bucks

    I have the ARB deflator and I have these as well…

    So honestly both work well. The ARB is faster at deflating but the Boulder deflators are more convenient because I just screw them onto the valve and go do something else. Sometimes if I am in a hurry I will start 3 ties with the boulders and do the ARB and by the time I get to the last one I only have to drain a little more air.

    Appreciate the encouragement. Ultimately, I returned it...the female end would butt right up to the unit but would not engage.

    Ended up finding a deal on a 300p via Amazon.
