I have heard of that but only when the battery in the fob was dying but man that shouldn't be an issue on a 2021 already, I'd see if they can swap a new one in for you.

Sounds like you’re on to something, the key/smart key immobilizer system.

you shouldn’t be having any issues with a brand new truck.

I would pull your mods long enough to make the dealership make it right with the keyless system.

You said you had aftermarket lights so maybe it's the fuse that the drl uses?

You did a hard reset which cleared the systems awareness of a problem that may or may not return. Time will tell.

so you did electrical wiring modifications on your new 4 runner ,you have to check the wiring harness

Toyota 4Runner: Pressure Control Solenoid "D" Electrical (Shift Solenoid Valve SLT) (P2716 look it up !
engine cranks and the engine does not start ....check the fuel pressure/fuel pump ..many had these tacoma/4runners new.

The problem hopefully stays away with the reset. But after you check through fuses and wiring, i would suggest powering the switch pro with it’s own power directly from the battery, if possible. I would think that would be safer for the electrical system.

You just never know if that tap draws enough, even when lights are off, to mess with what the various computers are expecting to see.

They likely didn't clear it so they could look for the source of the fault if you decided to have them troubleshoot it.

Kind of like an Airbus A-320. Happens often to those. Sometimes they just wake up "grouchy" on power-up. Sort of like a Windows computer...

With these vehicles it is important not to mess with the factory electrical systems unless it is unavoidable. The only electrical modifications that I have done that could not be avoided with an aftermarket fuse panel off the battery were switch backlight dimmer function and attaching to the head unit for camera upgrades.

After the reset, I haven’t had any issues. I’m curious as to what caused my check Engine light to come and the immobilizer to be engaged

If you have the money you can pay them to sort it out. But if you have a spare car then it might be easier (maybe even less hassle) for you to trace down the circuit that’s causing problem, or just rewire straight to battery. I’d be suspicious of any taps into other circuits.

i think I saw some comments somewhere (maybe on a youtbe vid) about someone that had issues with the car shutting down after some aftermarket headlights were installed. They traced it to a tap they made on a fuel injector circuit/fuse

The more I read on the "new & improved" 4Runner technology the happier I am with my old 2019 technology. At some point in automotive technology the KISS factor needs to prevail: Keep It Simple Stupid....

Sorry about that, it is reality with computer controlled aircraft. It happens with the Dassault Falcon 2000LX I take care of also. The Honeywell EPIC avionics system is based on MicroSoft Windows operating system. Not the current version either. It wakes up grumpy often.

I have done quite the mods on my 2020 4Runner. I started having electrical gremlins as well. I would be driving down the road and when I went to brake my entertainment system and dash would reboot. It did this intermittently. I have almost everything aftermarket going to my switch pro. I replaced almost every bulb inside and outside my car to LED. I had an air compressor, bunch of aftermarket lights, winch etc.

My winch connects directly into the battery terminal which connects to a control box and from there to the winch. I would have never in my wildest dreams thought it was my winch controller. I started disconnecting my mods. I literally had it sitting in my driveway and I would tap the brakes, System would reboot. So I kept the car on and started removing my mods. The situation stopped after disconnecting my winch and ARB air compressor. So after validating over the course of that day the issue was resolved I hooked the ARB back up. Issue hasn’t returned and that leaves the winch as the problem. I believe water may have got into my control box and shorted the control box which resulted in crazy electrical gremlins.

To say it is not your aftermarket parts would be looking at the issue blinded. Not saying Toyota never messes up, but honestly I believe they have some high quality control on their stuff and they have a lot of customers without issues (not saying issues don’t arise). As an engineer that literally is what I do all the time when problems arise. Bring things back to where everything was just fine. Then slowly add parts. Or in my case slowly start removing stuff and narrow down the cause.

In your case it would be simple to just disconnect the switch pro and put the fuse back the way it was. This way you undid everything. If all else fails your back at stock and the dealership covers it under warranty.

Best of luck. Hope it gets fixed sooner rather than later.

I wish I could tell you that Boeing aircraft are better. They used to be, right up to the Boeing 787. It is like Boeing has lost their minds, and forgot how to design a safe and reliable aircraft. How magnificent the B-777 is, the 787 has been a nightmare. It still is to a degree. Then the 737 MAX... well, now we know they did lose their minds (in management, anyway) with the MCAS debacle.
