I’m flying the colors on the garage. The Ret MG gave me a big flag. He ran a fire base in Nam.

Those new M16’s jammed. I can’t imagine depending on one and have something like that happen.

None. Bone Stock. EXCEPT: Brushguard, tow hitch, both welded to the frame. It's good to have friends and a fully equipped garage!
The M16A1 was a piece of garbage. IMO.
They would find a lot of troops with their weapons broken down, after a firefight, trying to clear the jams that they had. No rifle, dead troops. Worst POS ever foisted on the military.
The AR15 wasn't bad, at all. Then Stoner and McNamarra got hold of it, made exactly the wrong changes, and voila! The piece of trash that is the M16A1. The gas tubes were too small, the recoil spring too weak, the tolerances too tight. Slightest bit of dirt in it, and poof! Non-working chunk of plastic and metal. Did they really think the troops would keep the rifle as pristine as it needed to be while out in the field? Especially during a multi-day combat time. They will NOT break it down while they need it to stay alive!

The A2, they opened the tolerances a little, which helped, but they put the "progressive trigger" system. The trigger would get more difficult to pull for 3 successive pulls, then go back to the first, easiest pull, and start over. Why, I never did learn. They DID add the 3 round burst capability, which is a huge plus, but they gave the average Marine who wasn't a grunt, no training on how to use it properly. Yet they pounded into our heads that "Every Marine is a Basic Rifleman FIRST!" Most just went past it straight to full auto. Marines aren't usually the "spray-and-pray" types but you scare a guy enough...

Now, with the M4 system(??) it seems like they pretty much have most of the crap ironed out. Most. Essentially, they have made an AR15, with the 3 round burst, and full auto, capabilities, to keep it military. It's just a matter of dropping a different sear into the trigger group in the lower receiver, basically.

There's a lot of dead troops wish to heck Stoner, etc, had left the damn thing alone when they first issued it.
BTW: The 5.56 round they decided on for it does it's job well. It wounds, but doesn't kill, the enemy troops. Most of our enemies, though, don't CARE if their comrades get injured. They won't stop fighting to get their friends out of danger. They load them up with explosives and tell them to wait until the enemy troops get close.
The rounds fly a long way, as well. I was able to ding 10 out of 10 bulls at the 500 meter line. Let a breeze come up, or a leaf, or twig, get into the flight path, who knows where it's going. Especially at range. Bad way to do things, especially when they want us to keep the enemy at a distance.

Sorry, it's a touchy subject to me...

Many thanks for your sacrifices, my brothers and sisters...
