Delaying a 4Runner when you're 60 is like saving sex for 60. Grrrrreat idea. No, thanks.
I still have some hope. I proved my income to them which is way higher than the requirement. Now once my 60% paid off 4R is accepted by them as an asset that can be turned into cash at a week's notice, then I am keeping my 4R.
I will send them the paperwork tomorrow.

I agree about contributing heavily to retirement. But, if I made 200K annually, I would drive a 4runner + 3 other vehicles! :D

Absolutely! As much as I wouldn't discourage anyone from being financially responsible, I also believe in living while you can. There's a balance. Save for a rainy day, but enjoy the sunny days while they last!

I will also do a special humble request in writing from them, to just go slightly easy on my parents' case. Nobody is doing anything for fun. They don't have much life left in them. Just let them be around me in their last years. I will rent a one bedroom. They can stay in the room, and I will sleep on the sofa and we will eat ordinary food. And I will find a gig on weekends too for extra money. We will be fine. We won't bother the tax payers.

I am submtting the application, mentioning $25,000 in assets i.e. a 60% paid off 4Runner, and I have zero debt, excellent credit and some cash too :p I think I got this :bananadance:

I called them. Assets do count. Plus I have some cash too. They said it will be fine. So the case will be processed.

There is something even more lethal, inhumane, and cruel than Communism has ever been. It is called Radical Islam. Communists never blew themselves up.
I am glad you are here, and I am glad I am here.

Dealership called me, and in the heat of the moment I said I want 3 grand more. They called later and said yes. So now I am at $2000 loss. At the dealership right now signing the paperwork.
Sorry guys, I have some responsiblities on my shoulders. Parents will have to travel to and live in Dubai for their US Visa case. These expenses will all add up, and I am not someone who makes $150k a year. This 4Runner was 60% of my income, not a wise decision to begin with. And now the problem of getting my parents out of the a country which is falling apart. $2000 loss, I will pretend I went on a vacation. I can't lose this opportunity.
Sorry again everybody. Given my circumstances, I don't deserve a 4Runner.
But I will come here once in a while to see you guys rock

Also they say they will give me the check after 4 weeks when they receive the title. I think that's fine. It is a behemoth of a dealership, I should trust them
Plus I am making sure the paperwork mentions how much of that money I am getting. And I also told them about the scratches, they said it is fine.

You have your priorities in order:hattip:, 4Runners are replaceable, families are not.
As for the dealership, every sale I made (Carvana, Carmax and regular dealers) I received payment when I handed my keys and signed title over.

Thanks. The thing is I don't have the title. It is not a paid off car. Maybe in your case you had the title for your cars.

My check will be $28,000, $2000 less than my downpayment of $30,000. Sales tax, 2,500 miles, and 2 months of fun, and I am losing only $2000, credit goes to this hot car market. Sales tax alone is $4,700+

What state do you live in?

Someone needs to take this guy wheeling with them so he can still enjoy the 4Runner life!

You’re using wisdom in your decision-making. If selling the 4Runner puts you in a better position to help your parents, you’ll never regret selling. Life is short, and 4Runners are things. Praying for you and your family, bro.

I will pretend that I am one of those immigrants who ran for their lives during World War II and lost everything. In my case, I haven't lost that much.

I disagree with the I don’t deserve a 4Runner comment, good on you for putting your wants on the back burner to help your family.

    I second this, If you start a Go-Fund-me, let us know. And I wouldn’t say you don’t deserve a 4Runner. Everyone deserves a 4Runner!

You have gained! You now have some ideas of places you can take your parents for a nice sunday drive, if they are inclined to go for rides. Heck, you already have some trails picked out where a Camry could go. Have yourself some nice picnics with your parents out in the American countryside!

You did nothing wrong getting the 4runner. You had a huge down payment on it. I definitely would not categorize your purchase as a mistake. You enjoyed it like it was meant to be enjoyed.

Yet, you did absolutely right to prioritize your family like you did. Honoring your parents like you are doing is such a beautiful gift to them.
