What is the future of gas?

Not sure of actual numbers, but you need to minus the fuel plus tank, engine, plus other fluids and parts. I’m sure EV will still be heavy, but not sure how much in the end.

 

We have to lead together, we the people that need to make it work & start in our backyard to make something happen; politicians come & go and are never going to do this for us.

There is a big misconception in that respect, the Government is here to govern not to lead and do our job or educate our children.

Remember it well.

 

Government failures are legion. Government is made up of humans, and all humans are flawed. Plus, power often corrupts.

But people have a regrettable tendency to take for granted the many good things achieved only because of government. As if those good things are a natural state of affairs. They of course are not. These good things exist only because of government action.

Just a few examples of many:

> Our military is not just exceedingly powerful, it is among the most professional, diverse, merit-based and nonpartisan institutions in the world. This military is created, regulated and sustained by government.

> Our air and water are far, far cleaner than they were decades ago -- because of government regulation. Deaths and illnesses are prevented. Polluting companies have proved they can not be trusted to care about this more than their profits.

> We can travel to all corners of this amazing country because of government investment in roads and other infrastructure.

> We're not getting burnt to a crisp by UV radiation because international agreements led to the repair of the Ozone Layer.

> Our foods are generally safe, and the medicines we take are generally safe and effective because of government regulation. Corporations would gladly poison us to make a few more bucks. History shows that this can't be fixed by market forces alone. It's government that sets and enforces the rules needed to keep our foods and medicines generally safe.

> Hunger and disease have dropped dramatically worldwide, despite massive increases in population -- because of coordinated government action in concert with technology (much of which itself was developed due to government investments and policies).

> Do you get, or have parents or grandparents getting Social Security or Medicare? Don't those checks usually arrive on time? Aren't they usually the right amount? Don't they make their lives better? Don't they prevent poverty, hunger and homelessness for millions of our fellow citizens? These programs were created by and are administered by government.

Government does many essential things, and does many of them pretty well. Those who only bash it are contributing to a cynicism that is not only unfair but destructive -- and self fulfilling.

This was a good move, although the cinic in me wants to say it has been done more due to the fact that dead people aren't good for business. Unfortunately, countries like China and Russia still do what they want regarding pollution, while we pay dearly in the name of “climate change”.

What is unfortunate is that too less is going to the people affected and more is going into the pockets of special interests groups and politicians. All those funds from our budget going to programs like “study homosexuality in Pakistan” – where they stone you to death if you admit you are homosexual – this puzzles me. I would love to see all our hard earned money going to the people in need and not down the river to make the rich richer…

In short, government exists because of our taxes, and, at least in theory, it should be one “to the people, for the people by the people”. Unfortunately, it devolved in being a bunch of corrupt, self-serving cesspool of greed and perversion that cares only about themselves.

But I will agree that a proper government that holistically cares and represents the people and not themselves is necessary, and only us can make that happen by getting more involved in our communities and elect people that care. It is not bashing the government, it is criticizing it when it becomes corrupt and ignorant of who it represents.

 

Here is the future of hybrid unless technology changes drastically… you will have….

1. Another gas or electric powered vehicle will tow your car as seen below
2. You will be stuck on the charger for however long (who knows how much it will cost to charge the car). Plus as the battery depreciates your vehicle will get less and less miles on the charge until the expensive battery is replaced. Meaning more money in towing expenses.
3. You may ask… how does he have all this wisdom… I can say that I have recovered a dead Jeep a few times and it always dies away from the charger. These hybrids are always dying and needing to be recharged. Then they take forever to recharge (at least that is what the owners of the Jeep say):

 

You should get the youngsters a 4runner so it won't break as often!

 

We shouldn't argue. A few of us have already taken this thread off the rails. But of course taxes underwrite government action. Duh. That's hardly a revelation. Nor does it mean it's not government. This is how government works. It's how it's always worked. It's not a criticism of government -- it's a core function of government.

I of course agree with you about the need for all of us to work better together to make government better. But we can't do that if we ignore what government does well. If we act as if it's nothing but a cesspool. That's just BS. And self defeating. This is my core point. We need to be willing to see both the good and the bad, objectively. If we say it's all good we're just plain stupid. If we say it's all sh*t, we're just plain stupid.

 

Please do not take this as "arguing", take it as an "argument" to your comment. I was never a fan of "government is my God" approach - this sounds like a communist slogan in my ears. Although I do not think you meant it this way. We all need to make this country (and world) a better place for our children and fighting one another won't accomplish anything. Reaching out and understanding each other should be our main goal. Politicians, left or right, are all sewing division to keep us distracted while they retain the power. When we will start working together as one, despite our differences, we will be unstoppable.

 

I think for a political debate, we need to move to another section of this forum; nevertheless, we are part of a democratic platform, all the above is made possible by us paying taxes. This is a great country without any doubt, I advocated this for the longest time.

Do you not think that the hard working good people, Citizen's of this country are the once that make it all possible what you describe? Like I said, we are all in this together.

We can only evolve and improve as a nation, if our tax money is wisely invested in a way that shows knowledge, good judgment and budgets are spend carefully and wisely for the greater good.

My point is only that government does a lot of necessary things, and does a lot of things pretty well. And we need to recognize that if we are to be successful in making it better. I'm simply reacting to the "they're all a bunch of crooks" stuff. The claims that government is just wasteful, corrupt and ineffectual. That's simply not true. And saying it makes things worse. Government does the military pretty well. It does Social Security and Medicare pretty well. It does some shit environmental regulation and some great environmental regulation. Likewise with food and medicine safety. These are all really, really big things. 'nuf said.

 

We (or at least I) should probably clarify something: I am referring to the gov corruption that is partially caused by too much bureaucracy. Bureaucracy is horrible and creates waste in any institution, but in private sector bureaucracy does not waste people's money. People that think big government solves issues miss the fact that big government is a main cause of corruption, from DOJ all way to regulatory agencies and insider trading. We need our government to fear we the people so it does the work for we the people. When people fear the government, this is what leads to communism, loss of freedoms, etc. I do not see the idea of government as a bad thing, where we got now, that is an issue.

Fun fact, since you mentioned gov and military, remember that hammer that was like what, 30 or 50 bucks? Lol. Contracts are granted (aka "pay to play" schemas) to companies that sell a $3 item for $30... This is what I criticize btw, not the general idea.

The bold will never happen cause we have an ignorant voting populace that not only votes due to one issue but believe everything they hear or read on FB and other sites without fact checking. 2040?

 

Gas is not going away as soon as we might think, or as soon as certain people want us to think; It may reach obscenely high prices per gallon in the next six months, but the average person cannot afford an electric vehicle and until the following two things happen, electricity will not become the dominant fuel source for passenger vehicles...

1. Gasoline and diesel may pollute, but it takes mere minutes to refuel a vehicle that runs on fossil fuels, or recycled dinosaurs as I call them. How long does it take for a Tesla to reach full charge?!?!
2. There are more and more charging stations across the country, but a lot of them seem to be Tesla-specific...?!?! Until every rest stop and small town has an electric vehicle charging station, I'm holding onto my Tacoma! I guarantee you I spend less per month putting gas in truck than the monthly payments on even a base Tesla Model 3 would be!

 

2008 was $5.00 in San Diego. I'm sure it will hit 6 for everyone in socal by the end of the month (already is in some places) If it hits 7 I think Biden and all the democrats will definitely be outed. Politics aside we were heading for a recession pre Russia invading Ukraine, the gas situation just steamrolled it. I already see quite a few people dumping 4runners and tacomas and other trucks for sale

 

Rising gas prices are now one of the motivations to me to arise in my career. Because I cannot imagine myself buying an electric or hybrid car in my life time. The sun could rise from the west and sit in the east, but I cannot drive an electric or hybrid car

 

People are buying 4Runners and Tacomas like crazy, nobody's dumping anything

 

Energy dependent nations have always been at the mercy of those with the oil, thus have always paid far more for gas. There are those in high places who want the U.S. to be like Europe. This is a big step in that direction, becoming energy dependent. Gas currently goes for $8.264 (USD) per gallon in Germany. Until someone decides to flip the on switch on our pumps that is precisely where we are headed. Sophomore economics…

They are here in socal, yes they were pre gas hike because of the market but the last week or two I noticed a crap ton of 4runners and tacomas for sale on marketplace more than usual. People are short sighted and freak out

 

Our economy in the United States is consumer driven, only the 1percent won't be affected, Middle class folks including myself will spend less for sure not to mention everything you buy is going up in prices because everything from food to clothes is transported via trucks so the consumer will have to foot the difference there.

 

The monthly payment folks I guess.They would rather lose the car but not extra $20 at the pump lol. Again, this is a good time and good motivation to rise in one's career. You want to keep driving a 4Runner and not a Prius? Then go and earn some more money

 

Guys, don't freak out. Find some side gig. And you retired folks, stop playing golf all day. Go and bring some passenger from the airport few times a week. You will earn two tanks of gas. Drive some drunks this Saint Patricks day. Carry some puke bags in the car
