I hate to even admit this…it still haunts me.
About a month and a half ago I test drove a Lunar Rock TRD Pro…brand new.
It was the first dealer I had been to and I didn’t realize how crazy things were.
    What’s worse? No markup.
So I left the dealer to “think about it”.
Had a unicorn in my hands and let it go.
    Ouch.

Yeah, that is the allocation ordering at work. GST dealerships can only work with what is allocated to them, and GST did not request any 4runners with KDSS. So they can’t do an allocation order to get you one, and they are not doing any special orders until at least Nov or Dec. I am flying to Denver to pick up ours in a couple of weeks.

Put down a deposit today on one. Was told it’s fully refundable if I find one sooner. Hoping one comes soon!

This is feeling impossible. I have called about every Toyota in Texas and surrounding states. Anyone work at Toyota or have any leads? Will dealers from further states deliver vehicles? I’m currently sharing a vehicle with my wife waiting for someone to get a white TRD pro in.

I am working with Mountain States Toyota in Denver and we will be flying up to get a 2022 ORP with KDSS and driving it back in a few weeks. I have not seen any Pro's pop up on their inventory, but you can talk to them and see what they might have coming or what their waiting list looks like. Finding a Pro that isn't spoken for is unlikely to happen right now. You will need to find somebody who either has one somewhere out in their allocation that will let you put in an order and wait, or has a realistically short wait list that you can get on to place an order for one. Nobody in Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Arkansas, or Mississippi will be able to order anything for you until at least Nov-Dec (they are all under Gulf States Toyota), and any orders they are able to get accepted will be subject to chip shortage limitations. Unless there is something you just have to have that is only available on the Pro, you should consider getting an ORP and spending the money you save on upgrading whatever you want to make it more like the Pro. The ORP will be alot easier to get than the Pro.

I agree, but figured I’d post for the OP if they really want one, they can check.

Yeah I’ve called every one that pops up on auto trader/car.com/etc. Every single time they are pre sold. Dealers way to get you to put a deposit down I guess?

Im definitely holding out for a pro. I mean if I’m going to spend this much money, I want to get exactly what I want and not settle for a lower trim level. The wait just sucks, but it’ll be worth it.

Consider looking at San Antonio Toyota, they usually have models with/ no markup. Texas 4runners on facebook also has some dealers that you can work with in the DFW area cheers!

Arizona told me no out of state buyers. Man it has been so hard to find one! I have 3 deposits down, but I’m doubtful any of them get a white pro.

I’m having some dealers tell me it will now be impossible to get a white pro by the end of the year. Apparently Toyota shut down all ordering and allocations. Can anyone confirm this?

That is what I was talking about earlier in this thread. They know what they have allocated already. If there isn't one available in that allocation that they can let you put a deposit on, then they have to order one. I was told in mid-September that Toyota *might* allow orders in late November or December. However, there was no guarantee that they would, and it may be the case that whoever you are dealing with was just told that they would not be accepting orders before next year. It all goes back to the chip shortages. They already had announced their production numbers for the year would be limited due to chip availability. Anything that gets ordered outside of the allocations already accounted for will have to be made over and above that planned production. I suspect that they are not going to accept any orders until they know for sure that they will have enough chips available to make them.

I just ordered my 2022 last week. I was getting the run around from different dealers. I called 20 before I found one who gave me the option to order. My advice, call every dealer, try different states and don’t give up until you find one who either has the vehicle you want coming in or is willing to order it. From what I gather, if the dealer allows you to order a vehicle then it takes up an allocation spot until it’s delivered. So that is why so many are saying that it’s not possible because they lose cars. I’m not an expert on the process but when I asked why I was told things by the previous 20 places that is how it was explained to me.

Toyota has not allowed folks to “order” but yes a dealership can use one of their allocations to request what you want. When Toyota is building what you want, the right trim and color, the dealership’s allocation is then used and your non factory options are taken care of at the port.

that being said, I don’t think Toyota is even allowing dealers to make request at the factory level, dealers are trading with other dealerships once vehicles are in transit. Unfortunately, this means getting exactly what you want is challenging. I hope I am wrong, as what I want isn’t showing up any where.

I was able to build it on the website with all options that I wanted and they placed the order. Said they’ll let me know when it’s in production. We shall see. I’ll update as I hear more.

That’s basically how it was when I “ordered” my Tacoma. Not seeming to be working that way this time, same dealership.

look forward to seeing what happens.

If I am reading correctly, it looks like you two are in Maine and SoCal? It seems like the Gulf States Toyota dealers have less flexibility when it comes to allocation ordering than those outside of GST territory. When I was looking at buying in Texas, and dealing with a dealer who was a friend of a friend who would not be jerking me around, I was told that they could change certain minor things on allocated vehicles or add port installed options easily, but when it came to changing trim levels or adding something non-cosmetic like KDSS, it would require ordering it, and they were not going to be able to place any of those orders until at least late November or December. Based on what OP is saying, it sounds like they may not be taking any orders for the rest of the year. So if OP could find a dealer that had a Pro coming up in their allocation that wasn't already spoken for, he might be able to change the paint color or something like that. But they can't take an allocated SR5 and make it a Pro instead.

Just keep looking. People bail on purchases all the time. I found an unclaimed Lunar Rock Pro a few months ago. But they wanted $10k over sticker so I passed.

I ended up ordering through a dealer in Kentucky. I chose the performance package with KDSS, MTM, moonroof, etc.. along with other accessories. The dealer has to be willing to give up an allocation spot to special request a vehicle to be produced. If the dealer isn’t willing to do that then they’re gonna try to have you settle for something on the lot or coming soon in allocation.

If you’re willing to try other states then it could be possible. The sales manager said if I knew anyone, especially looking for Tacoma to send them to him

In my case, it wasn't that the dealers were unwilling, it is that they were unable to do that. There were no 4runners with KDSS allocated anywhere in GST territory and it was not something there were allowed to change on an allocated model. Hence my trip out of state to get mine.

Yep, I already told them no thank you when I reached out about finding me something, so I am sure they will reach out and see what they can get, but it’s still a white pro as has been requested.

When I visited this summer they said they're selling new at MSRP and with a deposit the wait would be about 3 months. But they seem to have people backing out occasionally because 1 4Runner usually becomes available for a few days every few weeks. Most of the time they've just been bare bones SR5s. I wasn't ready to commit back then so I didn't explore their ordering/allocations any further.
