Because I came from a third world country, actually the most messed up on the planet. I know a thing or two about what it takes for a nation to become a Banana Republic. It doesn't happen overnight. You have to go wrong in so many ways and for so long to become a Banana Republic. And I don't see all that crap here in America. We have free market, rule of law, and democracy here. I am not worried for the United States at all. In fact, I'm worried for China, those Communists will go down, THEY WILL!

America's being in power and in control is overall good for the world. We haven't seen a lot of map changes since the United States took over. If the United States pulls out right now, we will have crap show around the world tomorrow.
It is much better to have one lion pouncing around once in awhile on preys, than thousands of hyenas. At least the vast majority of the population will be safer from the thousands of those ruthless hyenas.
I freaking ran from those hyenas.

I have read that dealerships are loving this new market. They no longer have to waste 4 to 6 hours bargaining with a customer who may walk out at the last minute over a few hundred dollars. Many have streamlined their business's since their salespersons can close a deal in under an hour now. They may sell less cars now but they are making much more money per car they sell. I wouldn't be surprised if this continues for many years to come.

That is a house of cards. All it takes is one competitor to bring it down. When capacity comes back up there will be players willing to flood the their lots and sell, if the others continue to hold back inventory they will suffer greatly.

I was thinking the same thing, but I just declined the offer and only after that I asked the price. But knowing them, back in June, they had a $1,000 "protection package" that consisted in rubber mats (which the pro has them included), locking lug nuts (pro has them - and I think not only pro has this) and nitrogen in the tires (like I would need to hold the tire pressure when I am flying at 50,000 feet altitude with a 4runner). A different way to spell scumbagery. I have no doubt I would have been asked to pay this insane amount. They also had a 2018 Pro with 20-ish thousands miles on board and they wanted 56K for it. And they sold it, not sure if it sold with that price, but it did sell. So on one hand I make them crooks, on another I understand there are people willing to pay over MSRP, and this is why this market exists and dealers are in to make money more than practicing fairness.

    This guy agrees with me:

I totally respect your opinion. But for me it is one thing charging more due to inflation, energy price increase or transportation reasons and another thing to shamefully add "adjustments" out of thin air, to maintain your profits. There are many alternatives to maximize profits, one would be increasing the used vehicle market. If Carvana can do it, so can a big dealer. And I also understand that the era of oversupply and 20%off of MSRP is and will be gone for a good period of time.

How can you guarantee that? Lol. But I am optimistic things will turn to better somehow. We became too spoiled and self centered and allowed people of low moral stands getting too much power.

I don't think these adjustments are out of thin air. Lets remember that the dealerships operate in the same inflationary market we are in right now and their energy prices and transportation costs have increased as well.

This is all free market driven right now. Supply and demand. You have the ability to shop around and find the best deal you can.

Yes, the adjustments are not out of thin air, I was wrong, the adjustment are out of greed. We pay separately for transportation (destination charges) and the cost of energy is supported by the manufacturer almost entirely, so it is included in MSRP, the dealer operational costs should be taken out of their profits, like it has always been. The problem is that dealers got used to have large profits and now, since they do not have so many vehicles available, they overcharge, to maintain similar levels of profits. It is a free market and it is obviously their business, it is also legal and I am not questioning that. I am questioning the ethics.

I'm hoping to get almost what I paid for my Taco, but even if its a few grand less, that's not bad for a truck i've been driving for 5 years and 40K miles. Will make it easier to pay MSRP on a new runner.

Once everything is set up, I will pay Carmax/Carvana a visit. I know I could get more selling it private sale, but don't want to deal with the hassles it will bring. And if I don't trade/sell at the same time, my laziness and desire to keep it will get in the way and I have a large payment that I don't want.

It’s just nuts! I just paid 44,000 (msrp) for my 4Runner, had to cross state lines to find a dealer who would sell one for sticker! My previous one was almost identical, and I got it in 2019 for 37,000. I get why they are doing it—the old law of supply and demand, but it feels predatory to me. The Mercedes dealership where we’ve always bought is charging 100k over asking price for g-wagons, and tens of thousands over msrp on some other sought after models.

Yes! Crazy isn’t it? I’d have never been able to tak myself into it if I hadn’t gotten so much more than I paid for the old one.

Crooks, though? I'm actually more inclined to question those who use their wallets to allow dealers to ask those prices. If I could sell something for way more than it's worth, you can bet I would. Hell, that's just smart business.

I agree with others this is just the start. All of us on here have enough cash to back us up.

Do you think banks are going to give out loans on these inflated prices for average consumers and vehicles. How about homes?

Inflation was 5.4 percent just in September. Are your employers increasing your salary anywhere near this?

It will catch up with all of us sooner later it’s just to what extent.
