Looking for opinions on a mid-range($$) A/T tire that won't break the bank but will also perform well in rain and or snow while traveling on hardtop roads. Looking at General Grabbers X3. Anybody have driving experience with these? Thanks for any help offered.

Blacked out badges, window deflectors, smoked 3rd brake light. I have a Borla muffler on order as well as some color matched engine cover stickers. I'll be painting the stock wheels soon as well. Falken tires in the fall as well.
I had two sets of Grabbers on my 2005 Grand Cherokee and they were great. That had full time 4WD though so I can't say how they would be in RWD. That said, I now have Falken Wildpeaks on my 4Runner and they are great. Quiet, good in rain and last winter we only got a little snow but 2WD was all I needed. Hope this helps ya.

I haven't used General tires in about 20 years but they were solid back then on a mid 90's Tacoma. Now I'd look at the Toyo AT3 or the Falken Wildpeaks, bang for the buck. I love the look of the BFG's but everyone says they're garbage on wet so that turned me off.

Cooper AT3. They have good road manners, also a good amount of siping for slippery conditions, perform well on the wet pavement, in snow also, and have a decent tread wear warranty. we have had good luck with the Coopers on our last few vehicles, from Silverados, Tacoma, and now 4Runner.

I have heard good things about the Generals.

For what you described, I would probably get the Yokohama Geolander A/T G015. I had these on my previous 4runner. They were the best tire I've used in snow, aside from dedicated winter tires. They were good in all kinds conditions, and had good tread life. I plan on picking up a set as my Fall/Winter/Spring tires once my Toyos wear out.

Other options to look at are the Pirelli Scorpion A/T plus, Kumho Road Venture AT51, Toyo AT3, it keeps going. :D

I went through 2 sets of General Grabber ATs now called ATXs on my FJ. Best tires I have ever used. As soon as the Dunlops are done, ATXs are going on.

Toyota was running buy 3 tires get 1 for $1.00. They have the General tires in SC. I used offer to get a set of Nitto Ridge Grappers.

I have had experience with Coopers, which was good, Continental which was not so good and Pirellis, but on a sedan and lasted but 30,000 and done. The Generals I've never had but like their tread design as well as the Yokohamas. So price point at this time will probably win out. These will go on my 5th Gen 4RNR, I need them for daily weather conditions and occasional off roading (trail-fire lanes) where I can go deeper into hunting trails with a little more confidence. Thanks for all the info, greatly appreciated.

If you keep looking you can find Falken Wildpeak AT3W. They are Thailand made but as good as competitors. I got these for the Limited last year. They will go at very cheap price.

Anyone that says that has probable not compared them with other brands, because they would all be garbage in the rain.

Idk man, I had ko2’s and at3’s now. I’ve noticed a huge difference in wet conditions. Not saying the KO2’s are garbage. However I would fishtail quite often with them in the rain and have not with the at3’s in the same areas.

I'm a fan for KO2 over Wildpeaks. To me personally anyone say KO2 are garbage it's BS to me. Both my KO2 and Wildpeaks are same size 285/70R17 and run exact same psi 33-34ish.

I have had KO & KO 2's on different vehicles, Mickey Thompson, Geolander, Nitto terra Grappler etc. I like the KO & KO 2's the best in rain & snow. This is just my personal experience. I think driving style, might make a difference as well Psi.

I second that, around 32/34 Psi they are optimal in the rain. Dry 38 Psi IMHO.

Yet another AT tire thread turns into a KO2 debate. :D

Mine were good all around tires. But, my Yokohama Geolander AT-G015's were better in snow. Even though I didn't have any trouble in rain, I could see why other options are better in the rain.

For on-road driving, they wouldn't be my top choice.

And, since this thread is about tires that are reasonably priced, they're not really relevant to this discussion anyway.

No no let's keep up the trash talk it makes it more entertaining... I mean and also provide relevant answers but still

Best tire I ever ran, price notwithstanding: Cooper Discoverer ST MAXX. Wore well, not loud, incredible traction offroad whether snow, sand, mud, rocks, and damn good on road.

Worst stire: GY Duratracs. Loud AF, expensive, decent offroad, HOLY CANNOLI garbage on road I have never spun out and felt so insecure in my vehicle as running these, and yes I know how tire pressure plays into things that was never the issue.

Options for tires, if Grabber X3s are your starting point: Cooper ST MAXX, Cooper ST PRO, BFG KM2 or KM3, Mickey Thompson MTZ, Toyo Open Country MT
Options for tires for something more reserved: Falken Wildpeak AT3s, BFG KO2, Toyo Open Country AT, Yokohama Geolander AT, General Grabber ATX, Nitto Ridge Grappler

In keeping with the trash talking, all of these options will be absolute garbage for the OP's needs. :boink:

From the OP: "won't break the bank but will also perform well in rain and or snow while traveling on hardtop roads."

And can do 100.000 miles and handle without ripping the side-walls from sharp rocks and is impervious to bullets; Hmm, the Miracle tire that doesn't exist, well maybe the Kenda Klever All-Terrains. :D
