After 4 Tacomas and 4 Tundras I'm hopefully getting my 4Runner in about 8 weeks (ordered at MSRP). I'm currently in a 2021 Tundra Pro Crewmax and love it but I finally have a free garage bay for my daily driver and winter is upon me here at Ice Station Zebra. Gonna really miss my Tundra but the prospect of getting into a warm dry vehicle in the morning is heavenly.

I still have time to change my spec before the build. I optioned an Off Road Premium with the trail running boards, MTM, all weather mats and cargo liners. Is there anything else i'm missing as far as important accessories or options?

I'll plan on swapping the stock tires out for BFG's the day I pickup the truck. Still on the fence about the TRD wheels.

Grocery getter. short road trips w/two dogs. Very little time off road....mostly thru fields and pastures to get to fishing spots. But I do deal with severe snow events. Wife has a Silverado so I have another truck in the family.

    4 Tacoma’s, 4 tundras, and now a 4runner?

You change vehicles as much as I change underwear. Much to my wife’s dismay. :D

I hope the 4Runner is the grail you’ve been looking for! I’m on my second one. Love them.

my favorite mods so far are a pedal commander and canvas back cargo liner and I’m over $10k spent in aftermarket.

Did they give you more than you paid for your tundra Pro? I love my LunaRock tundra Pro. But I do miss my 2020 4runner Pro do to the size with driving it. But I’m in a good cituation with my tundra. It’s my first full size truck and knowing when I bought it I could always go back to a 4runner Pro without losing money. Also my Pro is paid for so that even better. I don’t like payments.

I paid MSRP ($56k) for my Tundra Pro about 6 months ago and it only has 500 miles (I have other vehicles). I haven't gotten a trade-in price from the dealer yet. KBB Trade-in Value shows 58-62k..... not sure how real that is. The remaining new '21 Tundra Pro's seem to be selling with a 5k-20k dealer markup.

I think it’s more than real. I think you should be able to get more than KBB trade in. But if not you will still be ahead trading back to a 4runner. I’m still keeping this option on the table.

Did you price offers from Carmax or Carvana? They've been buying vehicles for a premium of late.

I have requested an ORP with KDSS, I think it will provide better road manners and provide good off road capabilities.

I have not. I still have 8-10 weeks to wait for the 4Runner to arrive. I'll probably start by listing the Tundra on the forums. I think alot of folks are still looking for '21 Tundra Pros.

yes, every 2-3 years. and that's just my Toyotas. The nice thing about the Tacomas and Tundras has been that up until very recently you could buy them new for 7%+ off MSRP and then sell them a couple of years later for almost the same price.

I'd say order tires now. They're getting pretty scarce.

I also like the roof rack cross bars, personally I just like the look. People said lots of wind noise but I don’t hear any.

Personally I also opted for door edge guards also. My garage is tight and I kike the extra protection.

Sliding rear cargo tray (if you don’t need third row seats). Besides the obvious advantages, with rear seats folded down, it’s truly flat back there. If I remove one rear seat bottom (2 bolts), there’s plenty of length for an air mattress.

I debated on the cargo tray a lot. It does take up some height for storage if that is a concern for some. Jeff Teague did a good video showing cargo tray, no tray and also the 3rd row for those considering SR5 or Limited.

In the end I opted not to get due to the type of stuff I carry and worried about it falling off back. I did like the idea of having it for a seat though.

For me it worked out not getting it. Apparently there were none at the factory at the time I my vehicle would have been severely delayed.

I personally don't see any use for the sliding tray but you mention that with the rear seats folded down it's truly flat back there..... is that true whether or not you have the tray?

    thanks!

I had both 4runner Pro. My 17 did not have it. My 20 did. I prefer it. Nice loading stuff without reaching in. Pull the tray out load it depending what it was and slide it in. If I went back to a 4runner Pro I would have it again. Just my opinion.

If you do not get the tray and have the rear seats folding there is a very slight “hump” where they intersect.

For storage or hauling stuff no issue at all. If you’re going to sleep in there we’ll it might be bothersome. Watch some videos and you will see I mean

Can’t speak for all, but the models I looked at WITHOUT the sliding tray did NOT give you a flat surface with the rear seats down. Salesman tried to say it was “pretty flat”, but it wasn’t even close imho. It was hard to find one with the sliding tray. I ended up ordering one to get it.
The sliding tray is nice to use as a working platform, and I also use it for tailgating at a ballgame or concert after-party.
I slide it out to load/unload heavy or awkward items like big bags of dog food, concrete blocks, or a straw bale, but I don’t slide it in/out as much as I thought I would. For me, the flat surface is the best reason to have it.
