My dad use to say "4WD's just get stuck better that 2WD's".

What's the relationship between all these people? Ed? Matt and Jamie are married I guess. Rudy is their son? The cute but stupid blonde girl?

    Loose sand and hills.

That is just a playground for heavily modified trucks, and that 4Runner was not heavily modified.

Matt and Jamie are married. Ed is no relation and just a nice old guy that helps out around the place. Rudy is Matt's son from a previous marriage, I believe. Lizzy is Matt's niece.

I remember Matt mentioning the changing conditions in the area and how soft the sand is. I think he was running 5-6 PSI on sand. If I'd see a well equipped rig getting stuck in there, with a decent driver, I would probably not be as critical, but when seeing folks driving pretty much stock or close to stock vehicles and they get stuck, I tend to ask myself what is in their minds... Most of Matt's recoveries are stock pickups, vans, and sedans, I do not remember seeing a decent 4 wheeler with 12.5 inch wide tires being stuck in Matt's videos - and I watch almost every one - but I could be wrong. And on those trails I wouldn't probably go just by myself either. God bless Matt's clients though, I have no intention to mock anybody.

People go out there with blissful ignorance of what they’re likely to encounter and get in over their heads. Some tourists driving rental vehicles too.

What's funny is that Matt doesn't bring a spare tire or extra gas. The gas gauge on the Morrvair does not work.

He also uses Harbor Freight winches. I don't remember seeing one fail him or him talking about one failing him.

But he has a lot of local support of he needs it.

His skill at recovering vehicles is almost beyond belief.

Ngl, lots of trails get conquered in the mountain west in heavily modded XJs.

Sand and snow are my two least favorite mediums to off-road in. Both may look the same, but can have vastly different properties depending on temperature, moisture content, and consistency.

Not much sand up here, but I lived on Kauai for a couple of years and learned quickly the dangers of the different types of sand. On the trip I took this Spring down to the Mexico border and visited Matt on the way, I went on some pretty cool Jeep trails in the desert. Aired down to 15 psi, I didn't have to use 4wd anywhere except one spot.

    Yep. Deep, soft sand...

I wouldn't say Lizzy is Dizzy she can weld better than a lot of good welders I know and certainly knows how to listen to instruction's on recoveries to help get the results of getting em out.
