New 2021 Venture with less than 1k miles. Noticed what I thought was condensation early on. Talked with the dealership and have an appointment but what a disappointment. Anyone have any issues like this? Everything is tight so not sure what the leak is about. 4runner.jpg 4runner leak.jpg 4runner leak2.jpg

That sucks but should be an easy fix. Probably a bad seal.

That looks like your rear differential. The oil should be level with the top hole. So should show up only after a drive. That gear oil stuff is nasty. More than likely a bad seal. Your still under warranty so shouldn’t be an issue to resolve.

Extremely rare. Good news, it’s usually a cheap quick fix and you’re under warranty.

Update on this. Called said the rear diff failed and will need to be replaced. Wondering if anyone has had something like this happen? Toyota Walnut Creek providing good service so far with brand new free rental car and offered to send clean up crew to clean the driveway (i declined).

Pinstripes, lots of em. Plus a couple dents.
It's a Toyota, it will 300,000 miles plus and keep on chugging.

I find it odd that a failed diff caused that leak. Can’t help but to wonder if the dealership is exaggerating a bit to get some shop hours paid for at Toyota’s expense.

Not that it matters to OP, you’ll be fixed up and shouldn’t have any issues. It’s just odd is all. Don’t see too many rear end failures on 4runners.

The rear diff failed? It looks like the fill plug is leaking from your picture?

That’s weird…. Was it even making any noise or giving you indications of a failed diff? Like grinding, or whining?

In your original post you said everything was tight. How did you figure that out? Torque wrench, visual inspection?

Maybe there was a defect in the fill plug bung causing it to leak. I could see a dealer saying that is a “failed diff”

I believe they had some leaking or seeping issues on some of the 3rd gen Tacoma’s.

That probably sounds right. Like maybe a hairline crack.

No this is a super rare event.

    lol at the driveway cleaning.

Toyota Walnut Creek is definitely used to a more fancy customer base.

It did make a slight whining noise then stopped. I really thought was a bad seal but today he said it failed internally and that's what caused the leak? I Inspected it didn't see any cracks. I torqued to spec and everything was correct.
