Your 4R looks army green in the second pic. Too many trees around I guess :)

To address your question of whether or not KDSS is worth it, I will give you my 2 cents worth. When shopping for my 2020 4R, I drove one with KDSS and one without. I can tell you that the ride quality is improved with KDSS, and is especially good at minimizing body roll when cornering. I really disliked the body roll on a 4R without KDSS. It is truly that noticeable. I have not lifted my 4R yet, but am going to limit a lift to no more that 2.5 inches based on my research of the potential risk to the KDSS system, which is expensive to repair.

How well would titanium slide on rocks? Would they dig in?

I wonder what the actual cost would be...

Budbuilt makes stainless steel skids. They're expensive, but maybe worth it. :notsure:

Sliding on rocks, pretty much the same as steel or Aluminum. "Would they dig in" don't know. Will let you know working on mine.

The prototype is always expensive, working on it, when everything is done and tested, I let you know.

Chrome/Nickel alloys stainless steel 304 or 316 is ok not worth the money for skid plates; it's just steel with Chrome 14-18% - 8-13% Nickel and the more expensive 316 has some molybdenum added to it. Density is pretty much the same as steel (heavy), rust resistant, that's all.

Titanium is far superior for skids IMHO, for now, I can only speak because of the properties. When testing in real life, I will have something to backup my statement.

I think an important factor with Titanium is the reflection of heat, (steel, Aluminum, stainless steel all absorb heat, heating up protected components) besides the weight/strength relationship and being impervious to most chemicals and salts, makes Titanium a great prospect for this application.

It sounds pretty nice! I'm just curious where the cost would end up compared to steel and aluminum. Obviously higher, but how much?

My interest in the stainless sliders would be purely for the rust resistance. Not having to worry about coating them or touching them up would be sweet!

    Something like this, between $2800 & $3500.

That's really not that terrible if you'll use them.

OP: I have found TRAIL4R.com to be an excellent resource for all things 4Runner. Many of the writers speak highly of KDSS. Many articles on suspension and KDSS.

@Roland I've got a very similar set up as you. Did you end up measuring your rear lift height before and after? I installed the 1.5" 505 coils but ended up with a bit more than expected ... rear hub center to fender height of 24.5". My stock height was around 22"

Love the stance of your rig. Was this kit purchased from yotamafia by chance?

For the folks that are doing moderate lifts (2"-3") are you experiencing the needle bearing failure issue on the front differential? Has anyone been proactive with a ECGS bushing replacement?

    Thank you!

I purchased everything from Performance Off-Road in Waukesha, Wisconsin. I went with them because they were local, and I needed fab work also.

I had my differential replaced just before I installed the lift (around 29K miles). I haven't had any symptoms with the new differential and 2.4" front lift yet. I'm at 81K miles now.

I know it's not 4runner related but I did do the ECGS clam shell bushing on my Tacoma when I had a OME lift installed. It got rid of the groan that I was hearing around 30-40MPH. I would recommend it, and will most likely install on 4runner once I decide on a lift.
