JBL Dash Speaker

Hey Gang, NooB here.

I am trying to figure out what exactly I need to swap out the Dash Speakers on a 2019 Limited with the JBL system. I have read some of the posts and now I am confused. I know the JBL's cannot be changed with a plug and play. And the write up I saw for for a Non-JBL system. Reason I need to be specific is I am going to visit my GF (400 miles away) and wont have access to all my tools, so I need to know exactly what to be prepared for. Her speakers sound fine down low, but as soon as you get maybe half way loud, they break up badly. Same thing with phone calls, they sound like crap from the dash speakers.

As I understand it, the factory speakers have 4 wires going into them. I need to combined (Purple + Green) (Black + Yellow) Then those plug into the new speakers, correct?

There was talk about the green wire having an inline capacitor. I have not seen where this is located. Does this get cut out before jumping the wires together?

I'm curious, why are you swapping the JBL's??? I have an '18 TRDORP XP and am thinking about upgrading the speakers. Are the JBLs better than what mine came with?

I just changed mine yesterday in a 17 Limited with Jbl system. I replaced with Kicker KSC350 which come with in line crossovers. It was a very easy swap. My factory speakers did not have the blue cap like many pics on this. There is a 4pin plug connection on them, and between the plug and speaker the factory inline cap was wired and shrink wrapped. There are actually only two wires coming into the factory plug and 4 going out, on the outbound to speaker side of the plug, there are jumper wires going from the two pins on the input side to the two empty output side pins, this is to supply a extra + and - to the tweeter cone.
Unplug and remove factory speaker, cut wires going to speaker near the speaker leaving you the output plug and wires.
For my application, since the kickers come with inline crossovers that plug right onto speaker with 3 pins on one end and only have a + and- wire for you to hook up, you only need to worry about hooking up to the those two wires to the output plug to the two wires that line up with the input plug +and-.
In my case the wire on the input plug closest to the outside of of the plug is + (yellow on passenger side green on driver)
Why they don't carry the same color wire on the output side of plug is a mystery to me but as long as you know the above mentioned input side is + ,yellow passenger and green driver, in the first/ bottom/ outside pin however you'd describe it. The wire on the output side that goes to that pin gets spliced to the + and the next one beside it to - .
The other two wires on the output plug are not needed as the inline crossover you just connected is replacing what those did, cut them short and tape off and reinstall new speakers.
I wound up cutting a tab from factory bracket that had the factory bracket hole (big screw) and speaker attach hole (small screw) and used that tab on one side and the other side of speaker lines up with the factory bracket hole (big screw)
The grills did not need trimmed and snapped back on.
Sounds great.

No offense to anyone; I'm a newbie, and our vehicles may not "look" like the aftermarket suppliers say or even the manufacturer says. I'm trying to help. Please don't insult me; yes, it's a JBL.

Portions of this thread were not right for my 2019 Limited JBL. But, once I pieced the information together and did the install, I got a very good outcome quite easily!

I bought these (Kenwood Excelon

$79 KFC-X2C 2.5" Mid Range Factory Replacement Car Speakers, 120 Watts Max Power (Pair)

KFC-X2C "Excelon Series 2-3/4" midrange speaker") from Crutchfield for $79.99 a pair. These are an exact size replacement, so easy. As is noted here, alternative, larger speakers only require slight modification of the mounting brackets.

BUT, I bought this for $13.99 (RED WOLF Car Dash Pro Tweeter Speaker Wiring Harness Adapter for Toyota Hignlander 2008-2019 Subaru Crosstrek 2013-2021) for the wiring from Walmart.com. That site does not show the Red Wolf part number (it's not even on my Red Wolf package), but they show these applications (and others):

For Toyota:

Toyota 4Runner 2012-2019 NON-JBL;

Toyota Camry 2012-2019;

Toyota Sienna 2011-2017;

Toyota Highlander 2008-2019;

Toyota Collora 2012-2019, 2011-2020 Toyota Tacoma.

I don't know why their application specifications are off, and I know that this harness adapter is available other places. Of paramount importance is the fact that the female end accepts my stock, in dash wiring. Also, wires 1 & 3 must be connected to feed back to the doors and wires 2 & 4 for the same reason. This adapter does that!!! In the Walmart listing for this item, adapters with and without the cross are shown in the pictures, but this one does it with the proper cross. Absolute plug & play - you don't have to cut, strip, or splice even one wire. It could be used with any replacement speakers because of the cross over.
