Totally with you on the simplicity. The Subaru Outback I had between 4runners had all of the “driver assist” crap you can imagine. I thought I’d like that. I don’t. I was actually looking to get a 2019 just to have a few LESS gadgets.

Your and my 4Runner have this curse of Toyota safety, so if our windshield cracks, it will take $2,500 to fix it.
If my windshield ever cracks, I'm going to put a cheap one, and I'm going to kill their adaptive cruise control

Glass insurance is dirt cheap. I carry it on my 4Runner and my wife’s CRV. Completely separate from the regular policy. No deductible. Covers all of the glass. Consider checking it out.

Interesting, I didn't know that! I've never owned a vehicle that was push button start, but I can tell you I'm not looking forward to it.

I told my dealer that I could wait a few months if he gets me a trd off-road premium with no push button start and no adaptive cruise control. But they said that is not possible. I hate all this electronic crap, but I had no choice.
I bet the 6th generation 4Runner will have a whole bunch of electronic nonsense

Toyota should make all the unnecessary electronic stuff optional, modular stuff that can be added/removed at the dealership.

They would just turn it all into dealer add-ons and markups. Like the roof bars on mine. Didn’t want them but the dealer wouldn’t remove them so they’re sitting here waiting to be listed on eBay.

What exactly is "glorious" about the feel of the 4.0?

I know I'm in the minority here, but the 4.0 is literally the worst feeling/driving motor of any vehicle I've ever owned. Maybe it has reliability going for it, but IMO the sound and power delivery are terrible.

I WELCOME some sort of hybrid / 4cyl/ turbo / 6 cyl or whatever new powertrain they put in this. The only thing that could make it worse would be to go with the 3.5L from the Taco.

To answer the original question, no, I will not be buying a 6th gen (at least prob till the 7th gen is out, and assuming Toyota really stepped up their powertrain/offroad game on the gen 6). I've never been a new car buyer, and with the way vehicle prices are going (used or otherwise) there's no way I'll be able to justify spending that much $$ on a vehicle ever again. I bought my 2013 used in the low 20s, and that's basically where I'm comfortable with vehicle purchase price. So however long it takes for the 6th gen to get into that price range is how long I would put off possibly buying one, haha.

I'm in the boat of wanting a 4runner now... but don't NEED one right away, plus there are no Limited's near me currently. So, i'll keep waiting for a 2022 Limited near me... or if I end up waiting long enough I'll just hold out TO SEE what the actual 6th gen 4runner will be. Lots of speculation right now but I haven't seen any hard facts.

Went back and read that other forum post by a member here. So sounds like the 6th gen 4runner won't be coming around until 2024. If that's true then that may sway my decision to get a 5th gen now.

If you're interested in the latest 6th gen speculation, read the first post in this thread:

    https://www.4runners.com/threads/the-latest-6th-gen-speculation-thread.20634/

It's the most credible info I could find from sources who work in new model development. I distilled his info down a little to make it as user friendly as possible. He's had some predictions before that seemed to be against what a lot of the rumor mill was saying and his info was right. The only thing that's changed since I posted this is there is some debate on whether the 6th gen will be built in Mexico or not. Everything else seems to be corroborated by a few sources now.

No, because I’m a full time bum.:) Can’t wait to pay my taxes. I made around $2k in 2021 that’s more than last year.

If it’s a hybrid, still BOF, and still made in Japan?

    Yes
